What is Charismatic Leadership? • Charismatic leaders have the ability to encourage followers to do what they want them to do through their personality and charm. • Positivity, confidence and a strong self-image, that naturally draws people in. • Attain high performance and results via formed emotional connections.

Characteristics • Love to take risks and encourage others • Make the followers feel needed and special, remembering personal details. • Make great story tellers and know how to read a crowd. • Look for the best in people and develop their potential. • Earn respect and likeability • Spread enthusiasm and positivity.

Develop Your Charismatic Leader • Strategies to enhance or acquire charismatic qualities: • Have a vision and est. distinction • Practice and have self-discipline • Submit to uncomfortable situations • Be enthusiastic and warm • Give individual attention • Practice persuasion and spread credibility

The Dark Edge • Increased risks could potentially threaten the organization if excessive and not measured out carefully. • Overindulgent charismatic leaders who focus on personalized efforts versus social charismatic leadership could lead the downfall of a business. Ego. • Example: Napoleon Bonaparte, Unfortunately, success went to his head. • Attempted to conquer too many countries, and his army began to suffer defeats. • Lost his confidence and began to make errors, • He trusted fewer and fewer people and became increasingly paranoid.

  6. Choose Your Style Overall, charismatic leaders can have either a positive or negative impact on an organization. They can build highly committed people that will serve to fulfill the better purpose of given organization, or be the downfall of it while chasing after their own self interest. The risk of a personalized charismatic leader is outweighed by the benefits that a socialized charismatic. However, it’s highly important to have a strong support and accountability structure to safeguard the organizational purpose from egocentric notions.
