  1. 11-15 Learning Target • I can analyze a visual text. • Essential Question: How is meaning conveyed?

  2. DOL: Infer the meaning of the underlined words • Exhausted by his exertion on the basketball court, Peyton Siva collapsed in the locker room. • Sylvia was not used to boats, causing her to clamber awkwardly onto the dock. • The test was so long and difficult that the students were in absolute agony by the end.

  3. Independent Reading • Read for the full 10 minutes to get your points! • What is your initial reaction to your IR text so far? Give at least 2 reasons for your opinion.

  4. Vocabulary • Irony: the use of words that mean the opposite of what you really think especially in order to be funny. A situation that is strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems to be the opposite of what you expected • Juxtapose: to place different things together in order to show how they are the same or different

  5. RA/TA/TA

  6. Work Period • Respond to the writing prompt. Be sure to write in complete sentences! • Try to flesh out your ideas to the best of your ability…remember, the person reading this is not a mind reader—you have to spell it out for them!

  7. Closing and Reflection • Closing: Provide your claim about the visual text. What is the photographer’s message? • Reflection: • What are two things you can do to ensure that you are successful during Tri 2?
