Program Mission: The mission of the graduate studies program in oral biology is to foster intellectual curiosity, excellence, and creative vision in the students, to prepare for the careers as the future leaders in the fields of academic dentistry and dental and craniofacial research. The program encompasses a broad range of current topics in craniofacial biology with special emphasis on craniofacial genetics, mineralized tissue biology, developmental biology and craniofacial regenerative medicine. Program Goal: The program aims to instill in its graduates strong research and critical thinking skills as well as deep appreciation of the complexity and importance of the oral and maxillofacial region for human health and well-being. Our Curriculum is Designed to Support the Mission and the Goals of the Program

Chosen in discussions between students and advisers or can be recommended by the committee members Minimum 3 cr. for MS and 22 cr. for PhD Suggested electives: INTBP 3240-1200 Graduate student writing seminar MSCBMP 2860 - Multiparametricmicroscpcimagng MSCMP 3735 - Extracellular matrix in tissue biology and bioengineering BIOST2042   Introduction to statistical methods 2 Elective courses

  8. PhD students need to successfully pass: • preliminary examination after completion of all required courses. It is a take home exam, designed to assess breadth and depth of students’ fundamental knowledge. • comprehensive examination in a form of a grant proposal. This examination is designed to test critical thinking skills of a student. • dissertation proposal in a form of a grant application outlining the proposed thesis research. Should be SUBSTANTIONALY different from the comprehensive examination proposal. • Thesis Defense Exams and Thesis Defense

  10. Research is the key part of the graduate studies Both PhD and MS students have to conduct a research project, write a dissertation and defend it in order to graduate. Minimum requirements 22 cr. for PhD and 3 cr. for MS Research
