Natural Disasters • Human rights of disaster victims are not taken into account. • Unequal access to assistance, discrimination in aid provision • Result from insufficient resources and capacities to prepare and respond to the disasters.
War • Human Rights Violations are the norm. • Both sides commit violations, as a rule.
Organized Crime • In part responsible for surge in crime rates and, in some countries, have accumulated vast influence over government institutions. • Gov. represents the interests of criminal enterprises. • Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia and Peru.
Racism • Lynching • Discrimination • Violence • Intimidation
Despotism • Monarchy- single person governs by established laws • A despot governs by his own will • Fiji, Burma, Guinea, Niger, Libya
Immigration / Land Rights • Exploitation. • Can attract criminal elements (drug / human trafficking) • Racism
Child Soldiers • Three forms: • Direct part in hostilities (child soldiers) • Support roles -porters, spies • Political advantage as propaganda
