  1. How To Turn Your Balcony Into A Pigeon-Free Zone

  2. You can still love birds without wanting them to make your balcony their home, and if you live in a high rise apartment in an urban area, you’ll inevitably have to contend with pigeons homing in on your balcony at some stage. From the mess of unhygienic poop, feathers and nesting debris, to the annoying cooing and squawking, pigeons are not welcome on your balcony, and here are a few simple ways to deter them: Clean your balcony every day Not only does a dirt free balcony deter pigeons (we’re mainly talking about food debris here, but a clean balcony is always good to have, anyway) but the simple act of you stepping out there to sweep up every day, will discourage them from settling for too long.

  3. Safety netting These dual-purpose safety nets are the ultimate pigeon deterrent, and what’s even better, is that they help to make your whole balcony safer for kids and pets to use. Birds are unable to perch on your balustrade, and little people or animals, are unable to topple over the edge or crawl or fall through the gaps – win-win! Bird spikes While these are a good solution, not everyone wants their balcony railings to be dotted with plastic or metal spikes, so you’ll need to decide whether keeping pigeons away from your balcony is more important than how it looks.

  4. Decoys Often in the form of an owl or hawk, decoys can be hung in front of your balcony railings, or stuck to the top of them to prevent pigeons from landing there. They can be effective, but it’s worth noting that over time, some pigeons may become accustomed to the decoy (especially if it doesn’t move) and be brave enough to land on your balcony anyway. Reflective tape or discs A cheap and effective option, reflective tapes or even unused CDs, can be strung up across your balcony to deter feathered pests from making it their home. As with spikes, though, you’ll have to decide whether these spoil the aesthetics of your balcony.

  5. You should be able to enjoy your balcony without having to worry about slipping on pigeon poop, or having to sweep up feathers and nesting materials every day, and with safety netting professionally installed, you can still enjoy the view and the fresh air, but without interruptions from pesky pigeons.
