  2. Early Humans • The first humanshad faced a struggle for survival. • They were concerned with— • Finding food • Protecting themselves from the dangers of life in the wild.

Early Humans Rise to the challenge • In order to protect themselves from the dangers of the wild and survive, early humans…. • Used fire • Built shelters • Made clothes • Developed a spoken language. • These areas of life make up a culture, the special way of life followed by a group of people. • Human Culture changes over time. • New tools • New Ideas

  4. Human Time Line • Stone Age • People that lived in the first part of the old stone age were Nomads. • Moved from place to place, never stayed in one place for too long. • Practiced Hunting and gathering. • Cro –Magnon • Considered to be modern humans • Lived in the late stone age • Made tools to help them with their search. • Created works of art.

  5. Hunting and Gathering • Humans lived by hunting animals and gathering plants for thousands of years. • Humans began to return to the same locations each season because they knew it would be rich in food at that time. • Humans realized that they could leave plant seeds in an area and when they return there would be plants growing there the next year. • This was the beginning of a new part of human life: Farming

  6. Farming Takes Over • Humans new knowledge about planting seeds and a worldwide warmer climate led to the Neolithic Revolution. • During the Neolithic Revolution: • People began to raise food • Raise animals • As a result: • Population Increased • Settled CommunitiesDeveloped

  7. Civilizations Advance • Over time farming advanced • New inventionsand developments- • New toolssuch as hoes, sickles, and plow sticks helped them grow even more food. • Began to plant larger areasof land. • Irrigation began. • Wheel for carts & sail for boats

Life Becomes More Complex • As villages began to grow life becomes more complex. • People are divided into social classes. • Some people had more wealth and more power than others. • People began to worship gods and goddesses. • Many felt this would make their crops safeand their harvest large.

  9. Results of Farming • Farming allowed for the creation of new and complex civilizations. • Foodcould be produced on a large scale. • Prompted development of new technologies. • Resulted in the rise of new civilizations.
