Alabama Is On High Alert When The Rapid Fire Continental Pheasant Shooting Season Kicks Off With A Bang In October With Friend And Foe Heading Toward The Woodlands A hunting practice operational across the globe is pheasant shooting, the activity of shooting pheasants, using a 12 or 20 bore shotgun or a .410, on managed hunting land. For many a hunter it is a dream come true to participate in a wing shooting hunt in North America, the ring-neck pheasant being the most prevalent in this popular sport. More than 50 different species have been found across the globe. Pheasants were discovered in North America in 1773 and have since nested in Colorada, Montana, Wyoming, the Midwest, the Plains states, Canada and Mexico. The beginning of October marks the start of the great pheasant-hunting season in Alabama, causing great excitement for every hunter in the vicinity. Organized pheasant hunts based on the continental European model, is designed to fit groups of 40, positioned in 10 blinds while aiming at a flock of 300 pheasants. When groups go out to hunt in the morning or afternoon, these birds are released while hunters open rapid fire. The blinds rotate and changes position automatically after every 15 shots. After the birds have been shot, Labrador Retrievers, who have exceptional skills as hunting dogs, collect the birds. Groups of hunters walk through the fields and shoot at birds flushed out by Labrador Retrievers, Springer Spaniels, English Setters or German Shorthairs. Although hunting with dogs requires special skills, a hunt with dogs should be tried at least once in a lifetime. Some lodges even accommodate hunters’ own dogs, although it is advised to use the trained dogs living on the hunting estates. Hunting is the culmination of a well-planned, responsible, scientifically thought through plan, which is aimed at offering a sustainable sport for generations to come. Hunting institutions have definite goals in mind, excel in forward planning and are brilliant when it comes to overall sustainability. Prioritized by forward thinkers in the 1960s, the wildlife conservation program has cultivated a breed of hunters who kill with a conscience, instead of stripping the land of birds and other wildlife, earmarking them as discerning gatekeepers of the land and animal kingdom for generations to come. Pheasant hunting is popular across the US, especially in Alabama, which sets the stage for a quality pheasant hunt year after year. Guides and hunters are able to find quality birds amongst weedy patches, farmlands, meadows covered in tall grass, on the woodlands and in grain fields. This ideal, fertile habitat for wildlife is rich in seeds, berries, fruits, shoots, insects, crops, and wild plants, which allow for pheasants and other wild birds to thrive grasslands. South Dakota harvests more than a million birds by 200,000 hunters annually. With thousands of acres of land under wildlife management in biodiverse areas, staffed by teams of professionals, including certified biologists, hunting of pheasants in particular, becomes a pleasant experience. Hunting at a successfully managed lodge, which believes in land management, habitat management, wildlife management programs and the sustainability of food resources, adds value to the
process. Additional planting of food for seasons when rain is scarce, is part of a visionary plan to ensure an adequate diet for animals during dire droughts. The invaluable combination of hunting land and timberland has shown that it is the ideal biodiverse ecosystem, and a breeding ground for good quality livestock and wild animals. While pheasant hunting is a popular annual sporting event for hunters, it is also a leisure activity, and makes for the ideal fundraising opportunity. Well-equipped hunting lodges normally have ideal state of the art facilities to house brilliant corporate events, with well-trained professional staff to support the fundraiser, and luxurious facilities to make the event even more memorable.
