One of the pivotal contributors to this transformation is Vedanta Limited, India’s leading natural resources company. The company, through its refinery- Vedanta Kalahandi, is focusing on sustained community development along with reshaping the socio-economic landscape of the region.

Vedanta’s Presence in Kalahandi is a Strategic Landmark Vedanta’s Lanjigarh refinery, located in the Kalahandi district of Odisha, has been a keen contributor to the region’s aluminium value chain. The refinery was established to convert bauxite into alumina, a critical step in aluminium production. Though the refinery has witnessed growth, it faces some operational challenges as well, especially regarding the unavailability of raw material– bauxite for the Vedanta Lanjigarh refinery, which has become an economic lifeline for thousands in the region.

  4. Rather, Vedanta has to import bauxite from other states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, and from other countries as well, to continue operating the Vedanta Lanjigarh refinery. Even the local village leaders, youth, and workers’ unions are offering extended support, as Vedanta bauxite mines are expected to create more jobs, improve local facilities, and help in the growth of the entire state.
