  1. Understanding The 11+ Preparation Course Any parent naturally wants to give their child the best start in life, and education is at the top of many a parent’s lists of what they can offer their children to best prepare them for a successful life of their own. In English schools countrywide, the 11+ exam is an excellent way of affording your offspring a head start. It is the entrance exam required to get your little one into a state grammar school or similar fee-paying school. Of course, there are several state schools that no longer use the 11+, but a few choice grammar schools still employ these tests, and even others use them in conjunction with the comprehensive system that is prevalent across the country. The 11+ exam is essentially a way for top schools to get their pick of the litter. It allows the schools to choose the very best students based on the strength of their performance in these exams. Many believe that the schools that select students off the back of an 11+ exam are superior in education, and parents who want their children to excel academically will do well to consider preparing them for this exam to ensure that they reach top marks and, in so doing, secure their place in a superior academic institution. Any parent that wants to see their child succeed in the 11+ exam, and that wants to give them the best chance of passing well and being selected for a top school, should consider investing further in their child’s education by having them complete an 11+ preparation course. There is no uniformity to the 11+ exams and, as such, it can be difficult to know how to prepare your child for these types of tests. The 11+ preparation course offered by many reliable and reputable tutors and online coaching schools is one way that children can be coached in a manner befitting the tests. The exam may test their skills in English and maths, but may also include other tests based on verbal and non-verbal reasoning. The 11+ examinations state that students cannot be coached for these tests, but still, practice, as they say, makes perfect and many children will benefit from some form of coaching even if the test is set in a way that cannot be learned. Additionally, some children may be bright and talented enough to not need coaching or tutoring ahead of the exam, however, it is still a good idea to have these children complete an 11+ preparation course as it will do exactly that — prepare them. The preparation course will give these and other children insight as to how the questions may be posed or phrased and as this eliminates a great deal of the elements of surprise, they will be better prepared and ready for their exam. The 11+ exam is a good way to test the abilities of a child at a very young age, and, if they are successful, it will surely set them up for success as they will have access to some of the finest educational institutions in Britain. However, any parent needs to understand that just because a child fails the 11+ exam does not mean that they are a failure. They will still have access to good schools and there is absolutely no reason why they won’t do well later in life. It is unreasonable to label a child of eleven or twelve a failure just because they did not pass a particular exam. However, the 11+ exam is a good way to set your child apart from the rest, and, as such, it is best to adequately prepare them with the 11+ preparation course to set them up for success.
