How you can contact me: • Email cordovajamie@cusd80.com • 480-424-8233 • Tutoring Schedule: • by appointment- changes weekly- after school works best • Conference period on Wednesday or Thursday- must have a pass ahead of time • *Student must schedule the tutoring time with Ms. Cordova in person or via email prior to attendance.

  4. ELA – the COLT WAY! • COURAGE: working in teams and sharing ideas – WRONG IDEAS are LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES!!! • CHARACTER: being kind, honest and contributing • COMMITMENT: building relationships and having a GROWTH MINDSET (“I just don’t know that ….. yet!)

  5. 7th Grade Reading List and Textbook Units: Students will have an ORP (Outside Reading Project) assigned each quarter. Genres and projects will alter. Quarter 1: • Unit 5: Facing Adversity • Sorry Wrong Number by Lucille Fletcher Quarter 2: • Unit 3: Turning Points Quarter 3: • Unit 2: A Starry Home • Midsummer's Night Dream by William Shakespeare* Quarter 4: • Unit 4: People and the Planet • The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton* *Denotes Goals* Students will also complete several assignments using Readtheory.org.

Vocabulary: • Students are assigned 20 words for a two week period • Each unit will focus on a particular type of word or word groups • Students will glue the vocabulary words and definitions in their composition notebooks • Student will complete a packet with multiple ways to practice the words -students receive the packet at the beginning of the weeks when the words are assigned -packet is submitted the day of the quiz and all answers are bubbled on a given bubble sheet before submitting -Graded as a Formative Assessment • Quiz- 20 questions- Summative Assessment

  7. 7th Grade Writing • Quarter 1: • Informative/Explanatory • Research & Formatting (MLA) • Quarter 2: • Informative/Explanatory • Research & Formatting (MLA) • Quarter 3: • Argumentative Essay • Research & Formatting (MLA) • Quarter 4: • Argumentative Essay • Research & Formatting (MLA) • Students will also complete Quick Writes and Timed Writes throughout the year.

  8. Grammar • 5-A-Day Language Review Program • Mini Lessons given in student’s interactive notebook • Bellwork Monday- Thursday: 5-A-Day Language Review Worksheet • 5-A-Day Weekly Assessments on Fridays • Noredink.com

Grades: Grading Policy • 1st Semester • 40% Quarter 1 • 40% Quarter 2 • 20% Semester Final Exam • 2ndSemester • 40% Quarter 3 • 40% Quarter 4 • 20% Semester Final Exam • Quarter Grade Weighting for ELA • 60% Summative Assessments • 40% Formative Assessments • Homework and classwork(completion grade only) • *Attachments for Assignments can be found in Infinite Campus. • - Please note that assignments in the grade book (Infinite Campus) that are blank with no score are not missing assignments. It simply means the assignment score has not yet been entered for various reasons. One advantage...it is a great way to check due dates for upcoming assignments.  • - Assignments that are missing will be labeled "M" for missing.

Absences: • ALWAYS check Ms. Cordova’s Website: • https://www.cusd80.com/Page/67800 • Attachments are often available on Infinite Campus • Missed Quiz/test - Schedule a time with Ms. Cordova to take the test/quiz. Test/quiz must be completed within 1 week of the absence. • Students will not be able to make up any work if they have an unexcused absence. They will get a “0” for those assignments. • It is the student’s responsibility to follow up on all missing work.

  11. Homework: • Nightly homework • Possibly online • Remember to check the Website! All homework will be updated nightly. 

  12. My requests for parents: • Check website and student grades frequently • Encourage your student to be a self-advocate • Please don’t text or call your child during the school day. Contact office in case of emergency. • Please be mindful of attendance. Block day absences deny your child two full days of learning.
