  3. THEME-The plight of street children forced into labour early in life and denied the opportunity of schooling. SUB-THEME -The callousness of society and the political class to the sufferings of poor.

  4. 1st part

  5. The 1st part tells author's impressions regarding the life of poor rag pickers.the rag pickers have come from dhaka. destruction has come in their fields and homes due to storms. they had come to big city in hope of finding living there,but the reality was painful as they had to face many hardships.they are certainly poor and lack various resources. The writer watches saheb every morning as he scrounges for "gold" in the neighbourhood. The means of survival for these ragpickers is garbage. These people have ambitons and desires.The problem is that they do not know how to make them possible. As such there condition is full of misery and hopeless.

  7. the 2nd part explores the life of mukesh. mukesh is a boy who belongs to family of bangle makers. firozabad is famous for its amazing glass blowing industry. there is an engagement of nearly 20000 children in this particular business. No one over there respects or understands the law that forbids child labour. These children live in dreary cells. There is no way for these children to come out of this trap.The policemen ,bureaucrats,middlemen and politicians will all hinder their way of progress. The women in their household consider it to be their destiny or fate.

  10. MEASURES TAKEN BY GOVERNMENT TO STOP CHILD LABOUR:- Government has enacted the child labour amendment act ,2016 which strictly prohibits the employment of children under 14 years. discouraging people to employ children in their homes ,shops and factories,etc....

  11. CONCLUSION Child labour is a social and economic evil,which damages the very foundation of nation and economy.There is a growing concern over child labour as societies grow into becoming more and more modernized.Like any developing country India is concerned with the issue of child labour.
