  1. The Mystery behind the Sponges within Edible Ink Cartridges If you are anyone associated with baking and cake decorating, edible ink printers are no surprise news. These printers are nothing more than any regular printer but are equipped with a very special type of cartridges. They have edible ink cartridges that use edible ink to print on edible sheets. Therefore, the images the print are edible. These edible ink cartridges are created in special FDA compliant labs and have two very significant differences, compared to the regular non-edible ones.

  2. Edible Ink Cartridges have the same shape and size as compared to a regular cartridge, but they have a sponge in them and they use edible ink in place of regular ink. The latter is a much obvious observation but why do they have a sponge? It has been a question to many. Why Edible Ink Cartridges Have Sponges? Only Canon edible ink printers use cartridges that have a sponge because spongeless cartridges could cause leaks in the printing process. The printing done with a cartridge having a sponge is much more consistent and split-free than the regular ones.

  3. On the contrary, Epson and Brother Printers mostly use cartridges without sponges. Therefore, you may find only spongeless cartridges for these printer machines. This is one of the reasons why experts prefer Canon machines for edible printing over the competitors. Icinginks consumable ink cartridges employ sponges in them and are designed to print on Icing Sheets, Frosting Sheets, Wafer paper, and Chocolate Transfer Sheets. When combined with our top-notch edible ink with premium edible sheets, the resultant edible images will make you fall in love with them. You will get vivid and clear studio-quality images without a doubt. Our products are dairy, gluten, and FDA compliant and go through a strict quality check for the highest level of quality for food consumable materials.

  4. Are Edible Ink Cartridges With Sponges Prone To Microorganisms? Icinginks edible ink cartridges are not prone to bacteria or microorganisms as some websites may claim they are. They argue that bacteria and microbes grow in the sponge and make your edible image-printed images unsafe for consumption. However, it is a myth and highly misleading. Bacteria can grow in many conditions that are favorable to them, which is a damp environment with lots of moisture only. Sponges do attract bacteria but the sponges used in edible ink cartridges are not usual ones. They are FDA compliant for a reason. So, stop and think for yourself!

  5. The edible ink used in the cartridges is not an ideal environment for the growth of bacteria because of the high level of ethanol in them. Ethanol is used as a base for dissolving the edible ink like water. Unlike the regular ink that uses water. Ethanol/Alcohol not only prohibits the growth of bacteria and microbes but also works as an antiseptic. Ethanol is also one of the very common ingredients in medicines. So rest assured, there is no chance of microbe formation in the cartridges that have the sponge in them if you are using them as prescribed.
