  3. Why now? In 2009, the London Arts Council held a roundtable session with members of London’s arts community to discuss how best to recognize certain milestones we have achieved and continue to build on the amazing momentum the London Arts scene has realized in the last many years. Our thinking initially centered around a one-time celebration however; it quickly changed to creating an awareness campaign for the arts to:

  4. celebrate.engage.invest celebrateThe creativity, passion, accomplishments and milestones of the Arts in London engage Raising awareness and understanding of the Arts that surround Londoners everyday investEncouraging Londoners to invest themselves in the Arts through their time, knowledge, support, involvement and finances.

Timing is everything… While planning at the local level started to take shape, a national campaign was afoot which had some of the hallmarks of our local campaign, we contacted the National Project Director David Moss in Montreal and asked to have London’s name added to the list of City’s interested in being part of a national movement to celebrate culture in Canada. The national campaign is called “Culture Days” www.culturedays.ca, and the London Arts Council is working aggressively to have London recognized through our local “heART” campaign.

Strong support We have experienced strong support and commitmentfor the campaign from community leaders such as London Transit Commission, London Public Library, RTraction, London Convention Centre, City of London, Downtown London, ReForest London, /A\ Channel, London Economic Development Corporation, The Beat and the list continues to grow as community partners of the arts find out about our initiative.

Culture DaysSeptember 24- 26th 2010 Culture Days is a pan-Canadian volunteer movementto raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.Culture Days events across Canada will feature free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind the scenes,” to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, and designers… in their own cities.

  10. heART campaign The heART campaign will be London’s signature event for Culture Days bringing together arts organizations, artists and arts collectives under the heART umbrella. The LAC serves on Ontario’s Task Force for Culture Days and will lead in organizing information and responding to the national organizing team for those who wish to participate in heART, and will provide them with marketing materials (logos, links, etc.) to promote their participation in heART, and the overall campaign throughout London.

  11. Participation in Culture Days Organizations will be asked to submit an activity for Culture Days, that will be a part of the heART London campaign. Activities must meet the following requirements: • Will take place on the weekend of September 24th, 25th, 26th, 2010 • Be free, open to the public, and involve an element of participation or involvement, designed to encourage Londoners to engage with the Arts in their own community. For example: Art Walks, Conductor for a Day, Street Performances, Backstage Tours www.CultureDays.ca

  13. Ongoing Elements of heART POET LAUREATE LAC will be announcing the selection of London’s first Poet Laureate through video & podcasts. The Poet Laureate will write a piece wrapping up heART and Culture Days for 2010, which will be released through social media outlets.

Elements of heART heART INTERACTIVE WEB The heART website will allow the public to access information about the heART campaign, download logos for websites, take their heART rate (fun quiz to see how you engage with the arts everyday), and keep up to date with heart activities and other items of interest.

  15. Elements of heART CHRIS DOTY ART AWARDPresentation of the first Chris Doty award RANDOM ACTS OF heARTThe heART image will appear in participating businesses and organizations windows, cars, desks, bikes etc…but it doesn’t have to stop there.

  16. Elements of heART PODCASTS & FILM CLIPSCreation of unique film and audio clips showcasing the Arts community in London. MEDIAArticles featuring arts and arts managers to appear in magazines such as; Business London, London City Life, London Free Press, The Beat, & Scene. Participation from /A\ will also be negotiated.

  17. heART : Beyond Culture Days Once the tools of the heART Campaign (logos, podcasts, film clips, bus shelter signs, decals, posters, articles, etc) have been created, the Arts Council plans to continue to utilize them the tools in ongoing messaging. The tools, activities and ideals of the heART campaign will be integrated into the “regular” activities of the arts sector, thus ensuring that the message and intent of heART will carry on well past the weekend of Culture Days.
