  1. Everybody Wants Lovely Teeth It is a fact that a lovely smile makes all the difference to a person’s appearance, as the first thing we notice about people is normally the mouth and their smile. Crooked, discoloured, unattractive teeth are often enough to form an unpleasant opinion, even if it may be unfair. A lovely smile just makes us feel more positive about people, and when we have a lovely smile showing healthy teeth, we often have much great self-confidence. That is why parents these days, and teachers at school, instill in kids and adults an awareness to always look after the teeth, as it ensures a bright smile for many years, but also healthy teeth, teeth that do not cause discomfort and sensitivity because they may have cavities and other issues that can indeed lead to tooth decay and even more serious issues. Dentists are the ones that we see for the best treatment, but also advice in terms of how to look after our teeth, how to brush, floss, and about scheduling dental visits. Also, not all people and patients always need the same treatment. Some may need fillings or replacement fillings, others may need endodontics or orthodontics, or treatment with a gummy smile, or any treatments to ensure their teeth remain healthy and their smile beautiful. Some, for example, are good candidates for veneers. Dental veneers refer to those quite thin coatings – or shells –of porcelain that a dentist bonds to patients’ teeth to change, to improve really, the appearance of the teeth to ensure they are attractive and natural-looking. The veneer is a treatment that helps to improve the teeth’s appearance and make them look cosmetically pleasing, in other words, lovely and no longer dull. Veneers are specially prepared to use porcelain or dental composite to help improve the teeth’s surface. They are often used to add a lovely, healthy, natural-looking colour to the teeth, or to repair small visible chips, or to hide unsightly stains, or to help remove the unpleasant effects of uneven teeth – teeth which may be spaced unnaturally so that the teeth do not present an even, lovely smile, for instance. In addition to its aesthetic function, the veneers are also used to help protect teeth from being infected where chips may lead to decay, as an example. Very often a dentist and the patient

  2. will discuss and consider veneers to repair not only gaps in teeth or to hide stains from coffee, tea, years of smoking, or even antibiotic use, but also to offer protection for teeth with thin enamel, for instance. The veneer, therefore, is a great solution for many different issues. The two most common types of veneers that your dentist will use are those made from composite resin or porcelain – even a combination, which is then bonded to the teeth to offer protection and a great smile for years to come before further veneers may be necessary. The dentist will prepare the teeth which are getting the veneers by removing a very, very thin layer of enamel from the teeth’s surface, and an impression of the patient’s teeth will then be taken and handed to a technician that will sculpt the required veneer(s). During a follow-up visit (once the veneers have been prepared) these will be fitted by bonding them to the teeth with veneer cement. That is really all there is to it. The dentist will most likely schedule a follow-up visit just to make sure that the patient is happy and reacting well to their veneers. Thereafter the patient resumes their normal routine of brushing regularly with a good brush and paste and making sure they floss regularly – and see their dentist as per scheduled visits. The veneer has great benefits for the individual, as it helps to improve the appearance of the teeth and one’s smile – adding great self-confidence for the person that receives this treatment.
