2. ACT Registration • September 21 deadline to register for October 27 test at a National Test Site (MMCC). • Required for 4 year colleges not for 2 year colleges. • 2 year colleges use them in place of assessment. • $30.00 or $49.00 (if you miss the deadline.) • With writing $44.50 or $63.50 (if you miss the deadline) • Extra college reports $8.00

3. ACT Registration • Applications available in counseling office or register on-line at www.actstudent.org • ACT Test Prep- free test prep book in the counseling office, books that can be signed out www.bridges.com/mvhs Site id: 0027572 Password: hchs create user name, select Harrison High School, enter information, and select testGear www.actstudent.org/testprep

4. ACT/MME • Students that registered for ACT with vouchers for the October test must take MME Oct. 30th & 31st at HHS. • Students not using voucher in Oct. may take in the spring w/juniors. • Promise Scholarship up to $4,000.

5. College Night • September 25 at 6:30 pm CMU • Over 50 representatives from colleges will be there . • Students and parents are encouraged to attend. • Fast Web college search (flyers)

6. College Representatives • Many college representatives will be here this fall to talk with students. Sign up in Counseling office before the date. • Listen to the announcements. Posted daily at www.harrisonschools.com • Times and colleges are posted on dry erase board by career center in the counseling office. • Meet with them and ask about programs. • Some colleges will give application fee wavers.

7. College Applications • Available in the counseling office and on-line. Many colleges prefer on-line applications (some at no cost). • 4 year colleges $25.00 - $40.00 to apply. • MMCC is free. • Apply in the fall - before Christmas break. • Transcript release form for each application. (Even on-line apps) • Turn application into counseling office with transcript release form and check. • COUNSELING OFFICE WILL MAIL COLLEGE APPS.

8. Completing College Applications • Blue or black ink or on-line • No white out • Neatness is important • Prepare essays and short answers (proofread) • Use N/A when needed • Submit counseling page and transcript release to the counseling office

9. College Admissions • What are the requirements? Do I meet them? • Range from open (community colleges) The only requirement is to graduate from high school? To highly selective (U of M) Where you need at least a 28 ACT and a 3.5 GPA. • Many Michigan colleges fall into liberal or traditional category where you need an average Act score and a 2.5 GPA, include Ferris, Lake Superior, and Northern Michigan.

10. College Costs • 2 year colleges - least expensive begin at $5,000.00 a year. • 4 year public universities - $15,000.00 - $25,000 a year. • 4 year private universities - $28,000.00 - $35,000 a year.

11. College Visits • Narrow your choices down to one or two and then visit those colleges. We will help you set up a visit in counseling office. • Excused absences - you are allowed two, need a note from home and documentation from your visit. • Handout ACT and SAT get set for college.

12. Financial Aid • FAFSA • Must complete FAFSA to get state or federal financial aid. • Determines financial need. • Available in counseling office in January.

13. Military Reps • Reps. will be here during school year • Look for announcements and check dry erase board by career center in counseling office. • Sign up in the Counseling office before the date.
