  2. Obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD is something that many people suffer from. Sufferers of OCD experience intrusive thoughts that motivate sufferers to engage in compulsions. Compulsions unfortunately are partially responsible for keeping the problem going. A common example is homosexual OCD. Sufferers of this could be sitting in the bath and seeing someone from their own gender sit next to them and wonder why they noticed them. As they can’t be sure that they didn’t notice them because they’re gay. Compulsions can have an intoxicating effect and alleviate distress but in the long-term increase distress. hello@seekapsych.com https://seekapsych.com/

  3. This is because compulsions often confirm the validity of the intrusive thoughts and thereby make it more likely that intrusive thoughts hold more emotional significance. In addition sufferers may also avoid triggers related to their OCD. Homosexual OCD sufferers may for example avoid crowded areas in order to avoid potential triggers. This can cause an absence of anxiety related to their triggers but can also greatly restrict the quality of life of the sufferer. Most people in the world also assume that OCD relates to hand washing or cleanliness and don’t know that things like homosexual OCD exist. Because of this sufferers can often believe that they are secretly homosexual and experience great distress. hello@seekapsych.com https://seekapsych.com/

  4. Recent studies have indicated that OCD has increased during Covid-19 pandemic. The types of OCD that have become more prevalent sometimes relate to cleanliness or an excessive fear of bacteria. However other categories of OCD have also become more common. The type of OCD a sufferer experiences does not have to be straightforwardly linked to aspects of their environment. Isolation is also something which increases the severity of OCD. Increased symptomatology can further make people isolate. hello@seekapsych.com https://seekapsych.com/

  5. It is important to note that OCD is unlike psychosis in many ways. People suffering from psychosis may have delusions in which they think that the dog is in contact with the FBI and fully believe this. Sufferers of OCD often know that their thoughts do not relate to reality but find it very difficult to just let them be. Because of the distress that they cause and the related short term alleviation of distress by engaging in compulsions. Many mental health providers in London are not aware of the different forms of OCD and how to treat them. They may therefore misunderstand the problem and treat it incorrectly which can in some cases make symptoms worse. Some mental health treatment in London is specialised in treating OCD. hello@seekapsych.com https://seekapsych.com/

  6. Due to the inflationary nature of treatment facilities, finding the correct treatment approaches can be very challenging. It is therefore very helpful to find a therapist near you that focuses and specialises in treating OCD. In addition to psychotherapy, many forms of medication exist, that can decrease the symptoms related to OCD and can generally increase self-esteem. Confidence is important as it decreases the symptoms that sufferers experience. Sufferers of OCD often reports of a lack of confidence, which can make any form of uncertainty appear as more threatening than it actually is. This motivates further verification and can also make OCD symptoms increase. We can help you find a suitable psychotherapist in London. hello@seekapsych.com https://seekapsych.com/
