  1. I want to achieve …Level 3 Writing

  2. Level 3 Writing … So you need … “Pupils write two or three short sentences on familiar topics, using aids [for example, textbooks, wall charts and their own written work]. They express personal responses [for example, likes, dislikes and feelings]. They write short phrases from memory and their spelling is readily understandable.” Proper sentences Opinions Good spelling

  3. Example of Level 3 Writing Teacher’s comment … ●There are two full sentences: “I play football with my father and my brother” “It is lots of fun” ● Although there is a spelling mistake (underlined) most of the spelling is good. ● The writer expresses an opinion (it is fun). ● These two sentences start you on the road to Level 3 … but you will need several examples of sentences like this in your assessment! Je joue au foot avec mon père et mon frère. C’est très amusante!

  4. Top Tips for Getting a Level 3 …

  5. 1. Use Joining Words! This is an easy way to lengthen your sentences. Make sure to use them as often as possible! aussi (also) mais (but) et (and) ou (or) avec (with) parce que (because) à mon avis (in my opinion) par exemple (for example) très (very)

  6. Joining words can make a big difference to your writing! Student A – doesn’t use joining words. J’aime le foot. C’est amusant. Le weekend, je joue au foot. Je joue au basket. C’est super. Student B – is able to write much more, using joining words. J’aime le foot parce que c’est très amusant! Le weekend, je joue au foot avec mon père ouavec mes copains. Je joue au basket aussi. À mon avis, le sport, c’est super!

  7. 2. Express your opinion Look for opportunities to give your opinion. C’est amusant! C’est génial ! C’est utile! C’est super! C’est ennuyeux! C’est pas mal! C’est intéressant ! C’est formidable!

  8. Or for even better opinions, try this sentence-building grid … e.g. j’adore le français parce que c’est utile I love French because it is useful

  9. 3. Improve your spelling! • See the link called “How to get 10/10 in vocabulary tests” for advice on how to remember spellings • Re-read your writing, checking carefully for any English or German words that shouldn’t be there!

  10. Summary 3 steps to achieving a Level 3 in writing … • Use joining words as often as possible • Give opinions • Improve spelling!
