  2. What is Endovascular Neurosurgery? Endovascular neurosurgery is a subspecialty within neurosurgery. It uses catheters and radiology to diagnose and treat various conditions and diseases of the central nervous system. The central nervous system is made up of the brain and the spinal cord.

  3. Type of Endovascular Neurosurgery Procedures Performed by Specialists Thrombolytic Therapy Endovascular Coiling Cerebral Angiography Carotid Artery Angioplasty/Stenting

  4. Thrombolytic Therapy This endovascular neurosurgery procedure utilizes ‘clot-busting’ medications to dissolve clots within blood vessels in brain or within blood vessels elsewhere in the body.

  5. Endovascular Coiling Neurosurgeons will insert a very thin metallic wire which forms a coil inside brain aneurysm so as to block the blood flow. Brain aneurysm is basically a bulging in the weakened area of the artery wall inside the brain which results in ballooning or abnormal widening. Since this artery wall is having a weakened spot, this aneurysm is at risk of bursting in case blood flow is not blocked. In such a situation, aneurysm can be effectively treated by clipping or coiling it closed.

  6. Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery This is a technique which is commonly used to treat spinal disorders like compressed nerves, tumors, fractures & many other conditions which put pressure on the spinal cord.

  7. Cerebral Angiography This is a radiology treatment procedure which takes a look as to how blood is flowing within the brain.

  8. Carotid Artery Angioplasty/Stenting This endovascular neurosurgery procedure uses a small balloon and/or a tiny scaffold known as a stent in order to open narrowed carotid artery. Carotid artery is basically responsible for supplying blood to brain.
