  1. Causes And Effects Of Drug Abuse Among The Teenagers The physical effects of youth substance use include unexpected injuries, increased threats of suicide, homicide, disease, and disability. Teens who use drugs are at increased risk for social problems, depression, suicidal thoughts, and violence. Teen Drug Abuse may lead to severe mental disorders or permanent, irreversible brain or nervous system damage. Brain damage in teens who misuse drugs includes brain shrinkage; deterioration of learning abilities; amnesia and memory problems; impairment of reasoning, perception, and intuition; increased or decreased socialization; and changes in sexual desire. Drug use is associated with various negative consequences, including increased risk for severe drug use later in life, failures at school, and poor judgment that can place teens at risk for accidents, violence, unplanned, unsafe sex, and suicide. A disproportionate number of young people involved in alcohol and other drugs are at increased risk for death from suicide, homicide, accidents, and disease. In addition to addiction risks, alcohol poses severe risks to teens' physical health and development. When teens start drinking early, they increase their chances of becoming addicted or continuing substance misuse later in life. The earlier teens start using substances, the greater the opportunities that they will continue using substances and have problems with substance use later in life. For instance, children and teens exposed to substance or alcohol abuse in their homes are more likely than children who are not to begin using substances on their own. Research shows that the younger someone is when he starts using drugs, the more likely they are to have substance abuse problems later in life and relapse. The earlier youth start using drugs, the greater the chances that they will keep using them and becoming addicted later on in life. Drug use in youth may contribute to developing adult health problems, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and sleep disorders. To manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, or other mental health disorders, teens often begin using drugs or alcohol as a way of minimizing or numbing themselves. With immense amounts of stress related to academics and extracurricular activities, teens may use performance-enhancing drugs or stimulants to fulfill expectations from parents, teachers, or coaches. Teens may feel invulnerable and may not think about the consequences of their actions, leading to dangerous risks of using drugs. Teens are more likely to perceive the social benefits of using drugs, such as being accepted by peers or feeling more social, than to assess negative consequences. Alcohol and other drug use are highly related, often leading to problems in schools and families, participation in a negative peer group, a lack of neighborhood social control, and physical or sexual violence (Hawkins et al., 1987; Wilson and Howell, 1993). Teens who abuse drugs are more vulnerable to diseases such as HIV/AIDS because of sexual contact with infected individuals or the sharing of unsafe injections.

  2. Conclusion The causes and effects of drug abuse among teenagers are many and varied. Some of the most common causes include peer pressure, curiosity, and boredom. The effects can be just as varied, but often include addiction, legal problems, and health problems. If you or someone you know is struggling with drug abuse, there are many resources available to help, including the Rehab Center In Bangalore and support groups.
