Fluidized bed processor is one of the most widely used processing machine in the pharmaceutical industry. It is a multipurpose machine in which drying, granulation and mixing takes place in one single unit. There are different types of parts associated with a fluidized bed machine. These are gas inlet chamber, gas distribution system, product container, expansion chamber containing filer bag, binder spray system and many more. Along with these parts, a fluidized bed machine has specially designed nozzle system. It consists of a pressure nozzle that breaks the fluid under pressure. Similarly, it consists of a rotating nozzle that acts as a rotary atomizer and is used for spray drying applications. There are different factors based on which a fluidized bed granulator is selected. These factors are processing option, use of equipment, principle of processing and mode of operation. In many industries, the Fluidized bed processor is selected based on its usage. In some industries, a single fluidized bed is used for handling all the operations such as drying, granulation and mixing, but in many industries this machine is solely used for granulation only. In these industries, the fluidized bed machine is used along with a granulator to increase the yield of product or improve the quality of product.
In industries, the fluidized bed machine is used as per the batch model. The fluid bed machine is both available in smaller batch size and larger batch size. Some manufacturers make fluidized bed machine as per the customer’s batch size requirement. • Fluidized bed processor has many advantages over conventional methods. • The heat transfer is much better than conventional tray dryers. • Drying occurs uniformly • Saves labor cost and time • Modern machines enable automation • There are some disadvantages as well. • It is expensive • Chances of ESD and solvent explosion
