  1. Africa's Top 5 Nations Anticipated To Lead Global Rice Imports In 2024 Africa's Top 5 Nations Anticipated To Lead Global Rice Imports In 2024 Rice is a common ingredient on dinner tables all throughout Africa, despite the diversity of African cuisine being widely recognized. Tradologie.com, a company registered in India, for the world works actively to provide top rice suppliers from multiple rice exporting countries such as India, Thailand, Vietnam and many more to bulk rice buyers in Africa while at the same time, completely facilitating the operations for a smooth procurement of rice. Rice cultivation in Africa In West Africa, rice has emerged as the primary dietary energy source, ranking third most important throughout the continent. The staple is grown in approximately 40 of Africa's 54 countries, and rice cultivation is the primary activity and an income source for more than 35 million African smallholder rice farmers. Rice Imports By Africa However, due to changes in consumer preferences, urbanization, and population growth, its demand is increasing more quickly. Therefore, despite the continent's abundance of arable land and agricultural potential, it is becoming more and more difficult to meet the growing demand for rice. As a result, imports are increasingly needed to close the production-consumption gap. With an enormous rice import bill of roughly US$ 5.5 billion annually, Africa has continued to import up to 12.6 million tons (MT) of milled rice.

  2. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) projects that the global rice trade will reach 52.85 million tons (milled basis) in 2024, up 345,000 tons from the previous estimate in its most recent Rice Outlook report. Additionally, some African nations, such as Nigeria and Burkina Faso, have higher import projections for 2024. 5 African Countries with high rice imports in 2024 In 2024, high rice imports are anticipated for the following five African nations: Current forecast (1 unit = 1,000 metric tons) 1. Nigeria- 2100 - The higher-than-expected demand for imported rice as a result of both high domestic rice prices and quality concerns has led to an increase in the import forecast. 2. Ghana- 800- higher-than-anticipated purchases from top supplier Vietnam led to an increase in the import forecast. 3. Mozambique- 700- The import forecast has been increased to almost a record high due to higher than anticipated purchases from India, the top supplier. 4. Burkinafaso- 525- increased the import projection in light of the tighter supply that would follow from a lower 2022–2023 production estimate. 5. Sierra Leone- 450- Due to slower-than-anticipated purchases from India, Sierra Leone's top rice supplier, the import forecast has been lowered.
