HEPGRID & DIGITAL DIVIDE WORKSHOP Purpose: Talk about GRID for High Energy Physics in another Region of the World taking in account: • a potential community to contribute to the several • experiments of LHC • share experiences with Brazilian and Latin American • Groups of HEP • help the development of ideas in this region dominated by • prejudice against HEP • start new collaborations in HEPGRID • talk about digital divide in one region that it’s a Example of DD • Also Europe (SERENATE) and Africa (after Trieste Workshop) • so ….new ideas are welcome Alberto Santoro

  3. WHAT WE NEED? 1. A Chairman : (Harvey Newman + a Co-Chairman) 2. A Secretary . (Will be provided by AIAFEX) 3. A International Committee: People from : (CERN,CALTECH, FERMILAB, Russia, FIU, France, CMS, ATLAS, LHCb, ALICE, Italy, Germany, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, APS and SBF ) … 4. A Local Organizing Committee : People from UERJ, other local people… 5. A good Staff to work on computer during the Workshop - if it is in a Hotel, we can use the Real Presenter to publish after on Web the talks. - if it is in University we can do on line transmissions like in 2002 Alberto Santoro

A Good Programm and a Schedule Topics to get talks: - GRID CMS - GRID LHCb - GRID ATLAS - GRID ALICE -Grid-enabled Analysis Environment (GAE) - Special Session Next Generation HEPGrid Session - International Projects: iVDGL, GriPhyN, PPDG, EDG, EGEE, Reports - Digital Divide : Perspectives; Several aspects - International - Digital Divide : Research in Brazil from FGV, Other L. A. - Digital Divide : Difficulties ( Communities, Institutions, …) - ONE general Talk about Grid for other branches - Posters Permanent in Exposition? - This is one way to alleviate certain pressures. Number of Talks: 3 days (more?), Morning from 9 - 12 3 talks Afternoon 3 - 6 3 talks A talk = 1 hour Max 6 talks per day Total of 3 x 6 = 18 talks or 3 talks of 1 hour and 6 talks of 30’ = 8 talks per day Or an arrangement like that. Monday all day + a cocktail at evening Tuesday Only Morning + Free Afternoon + Tour in Rio Wednesday - all day + Workshop Dinner Thursday + Friday (?) the ICFA/SCIC Meeting Alberto Santoro

  8. Financial Support We need to know approximately the cost and resources. We have a possibility to get the following financial support: From Brazil: (typically 5K$US per Financial Support Agency) I will try to get some air-tickets too. FAPERJ CNPq UERJ …?   10. FEES? FEES? If we decide to provide financial support for some colleagues, we need to be generous with fees. If we do not have fees we certainly will not have financial support for anyone. IF YES : Suppose 40 participants paying 300 dollars = 12,000 $US And suppose all expense 3,000 $US Then we will have 6,000 $US for tickets + Hotel +… This will be Maximum of 4 - 5 persons having grant.
