  2. Free-Throw Lane Spaces(8-1-4b, c, d, e) All players moved up one space on free-throw lane Two spaces closest to end line now remain vacant New 2” x 8” mark must be added to lane near free-throw line – temporary or permanent Old 2” x 8” mark near end line need not be removed

  3. Illegal Uniform Penalty(10-5-4) • Maximum of one technical foul for: • Illegal uniform(s) • Illegal pant(s) or skirt(s) • Illegal number(s) • Previous penalty was one technical foul assessed to each starter/substitute • Technical foul now charged directly to head coach • Must be seated for the remainder of the game in states utilizing the optional coaching box

Illegal Uniform Penalty(10-5-4) • Proliferation of illegal uniforms in recent years • Previous penalty was severe and many games started with multiple technical fouls • Penalty changed because head coach is ultimately responsible for the ordering, purchasing and wearing of legal uniforms • No change to rule regarding illegal items such as jewelry, undershirts, etc.

  5. Headbands Defined, Colors Added(3-5-3) • Headbands must be: • Worn on the forehead/crown • Nonabrasive • Unadorned • Maximum of 2 inches • Only one logo (school or manufacturer) permitted • Head decorations prohibited

  6. Headbands Defined, Colors Added(3-5-3) • All headbands must meet other requirements of: • Color • Maximum size • Logo restrictions • Team uniformity • Ponytail holders are considered hair-control devices – no restrictions

  7. Headbands Defined, Colors Added(3-5-3) • Black and beige added to list of permissible colors • Permitted colors now includes: • White • Black • Beige (standard pre-wrap color) • Predominant jersey color

  13. PROFESSIONALISM DRESS FOR SUCCESS: (PERCEPTION OF SELF & ORGANIZATION) • SHOW UP TO OUR ASSIGNMENTS DRESSED WELL (BUSINESS CASUAL OR BETTER) • UNIFORMS NEAT WITH APPROPRIATE PATCHES • SHOES SHINED • HAIR GROOMED

PROFESSIONALISM (CONT) IN THE LOCKER ROOM - Pre-Game IN THE STANDS - Constructive observation of contest - Should not be in uniform (civilian shirt) ON THE COURT - Rhythm (fluent, comfortable, confidence) - Speed (stay with or ahead of the play) - Balance (keeping players inside) - Quickness (moving with a purpose)

  15. PRE-GAME CONFERENCE • Contact partner once schedule is received (use email option on arbiter and ask for reply) • ½ Hour to 1 Hour prior to start of game (Some Middle School and/or JV contest telephone?) • 2-Way or 3-Way Conversation • COVER: (pre-game card) court & equipment, teams, floor coverage, technical situations, rule changes • **Hook up the electronic devices prior to coming out of the locker room

  16. CONFERENCE WITH TEAM CAPTAINS ** 15 mins prior to start of game (Wow! This is a Change) (Let’s see how it goes this season!) • COVER: Be Brief and to the point Introduce yourselves as Mr/Mrs/Miss “Address Sportsmanship” Address any court issues (e.g. hanging ropes) Identify speaking captains

CONFERENCE WITH TABLE PERSONNEL • 12-MIN MARK REFEREE GO TO THE TABLE • ENSURE POSSESSION ARROW IS AT TABLE • GIVE SENSE OF URGENCY ON BOOKS (NAMES,NUMBERS, STARTERS BY 10-MIN MARK) • IDENTIFY TABLE PERSONNEL • CLEAR TABLE OF UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL • GIVE INSTRUCTIONS TO TABLE • TEST 30-SEC SHOT CLOCK • SIGN BOTH OFFICIALS IN BOOKS • TEST ELECTRONIC DEVICES • TEST THE BALL (7-Min mark, we should be ready & focused on teams)

OBSERVATION OF COURT & EQUIPMENT • ADDRESS ANY COURT DEFECTS WITHGAME MGMT (Alert both head coaches of defects) (** Include on game report) • CORRECT ANY UNIFORM ISSUES IMMEDIATELY (** Uniform change out of confines of gym) • CORRECT ANY JEWLRY ISSUES IMMEDIATELY • CORRECT ANY HAIR ISSUES IMMEDIATELY

  19. CONFERENCE WITH TEAM COACHES 3-MIN MARK GO OVER AND MEET COACHES (Always go to the visiting team first) COVER: • “Sportsmanship” • Respecting the coach’s box (28’ to 14’) • Getting teams out immediately after time-outs • “Asking head coach if team is properly equipped”
