  2. Outline the Problem • There is a need to help Middle School girls to successfully meet issues they face at Richards School. • Girls may have good attendance and turn in assignments but be unable to deal with being in Middle School.

  3. SIMS(Students, Interventions, Measurements, and Settings) Students-6th & 7th grade girls Interventions-Counselor met weekly with the group. Measurements-The Girls took a pretest and posttest. Settings-Counselor met with the group in Title I room at Richards R-V Middle School.

  4. Response to the Problem • 6th and 7th grade girls were invited to join the group. • During 3rd quarter, small group counseling sessions were conducted. • The sessions included: • Rules that make a group successful • Friendship • Bullying • Worrying • Secrets/Gossip • Self Esteem

  5. Results:The group showed improvement

  6. Results:The group showed improvement

  7. Summary • The girls did an assessment before and after being in the group. They rated themselves from 1(Not at All) to 5 (Very Much). • The girls in “Being Me” showed on self assessment they worried less and were not as shy. • The assessment showed they were happier, friendlier, more confident and felt they were part of a group. • “Being Me” did help the students to be able to have the tools to successfully deal with issues the girls face.

  8. Recommendations • Continue to monitor this group of students next year and see if the lessons carried over. • Do a “Being Me” group every quarter with different girls. • Start a group just for boys and focus on issues they face.
