  2. 1.HABITAT .Nearly all wild lions live in Africa,below the Sahara Desert,but one small population exists around Gir Forest National Park in western India. Lions in west and central Africa are more closely related to these Asiatic lions in India,than to those found in southern and east Africa.

CHARACTERISTICS The lion is a well-muscled cat with a long body, large head, and short legs.Male lions are much larger than females called lionesses.The length of the female is typically between 4.6 and 5.6 feet,while the length of a male is between 5.6 and 8.3 feet. Their tail length is 27 to 41 inches.Female lions weigh 270 to 400 pounds,while males weigh 330 to 570 pounds. The male's outstanding characteristic is his mane which varies between different individuals and populations.

  4. 3.HOW LIONS HUNT Lions are carnivores because they eat meat but lions hunt either alone or in prides.In collaborative hunts,it is usually the lioness who initiates the kill.Lions stalk their prey and, when close enough,the lion attempts a short charge on their prey,trying either to pounce on their target or knock it over. Lions hunt medium-sized to large hoofed animals like wildebeests,zebras, and antelopes,and sometimes they hunt large animals on special occasions

  5. 5.EXTINCT LIONS The extinct types of lions are the eurasian cave lion,barbary lion,american lion, cape lion,and panthera leo fossilis.

  6. 4.TYPES OF LIONS That still exist The current existing species of lions are the Panthera leo leo which is found in Asia and northern Africa and the other lion is the Panthera leo melanochaita which is found across southern Africa.
