  4. Materials Set-up “the case” • Box of Pens, Pencils, • Calculators numbered and in bundles of five(5) • All exam forms, extra demo, and registration, • Hard copy of examinee and Surveillance form. • Refresh after every use. Jeff McNeal GED may 2008

Registration avoiding the devil • Complete registration process one day before exam. • Must have all parts to let an individual set for exam • Registration sheet –Misconduct sheet • Waiver (under 18) • Copy of government issued photo identification. • Collect all fees and issue appointment card.   6. The Tricky Partthe devils watching • Create your examinee list using your registration forms • Check examinee’s background—did you check everyone? https://ged.state.mi.us/ • Create your Surveillance Log. • Create your Seating Chart • Does it all match???? Jeff McNeal GED may 2008

Pulling Exams keeping the devil away • Hang out the do not disturb sign and no interruptions • This is where you have to be careful • Use your examinee or surveillance log • Use sticky notes to mark exam books • One per examinee with information • Record format, topic, and book number • Count the exam books and note. • Lock up exam materials Jeff McNeal GED may 2008

Exam Time get started before the devil finds out • Get the “case” computer and hard copies • Seating Chart, Surveillance log, examinee list • Pull and count exam materials. • Lock the case and keep it with you at all times. • Check room and label seats • Place students in seats according to your seating chart • Check Photo Identification. Administration of the Examwatch out for the devil • Pass out appropriate answers sheets • Pass out supplies as required pencils/pens/calculators /writing –math scratch paper • Read and help examinees bubble in answer sheets • Read the misconduct statement (cell phones) • if they need anything raise their hand • I take a very short break (bathroom) at this time • Remind them on the return about cell phones and other materials. • Read the Exam instructions and start Jeff McNeal GED may 2008

  10. Don’t forget • Write the start and stop times on the board • Fill in the surveillance sheet • Walk the room double check the students exam and surroundings. Stopping the Devil • You can stop all testing for a short period • Record time when you stopped • Remove, isolate, or handle problem as required. • Restart the clock and record the new start time giving back the minutes of interruption • File irregularity report with GED state (Ben Williams) Jeff McNeal GED may 2008

Devil makes you Run You have to evacuate • Stop the exam and have everyone put their answer sheets in their exam book. • Collect all exam materials lock them in the “Case” • Evacuate but keep all examinees within eye sight. • If you are able to return within 30 minutes test may resume. • Do not jeopardize yourself or examinees let the devil destroy the exams and do the paper work. Send it in • Fill in Oklahoma batch control form • Count materials and compare to Examinee list • Attach complete Examinee list, accommodation sheets • Package materials in the same order as the batch control form • Send materials in a secure traceable manner Devils gone to Oklahoma Jeff McNeal GED may 2008

Test Compromise • Compromise occurs if restricted material is exposed to any person without direct supervision by Chief or Alternate examiner • Exposure situations: • GED candidate leaves seat during test • GED test item is discussed • Essay topics are discussed • Access to GED test booklet during a challenge by candidate • Access to tests by non-approved person • Permitting essay drafts and scratch paper to remain in candidate’s possession prior to destruction

What are CompromisesExposure Situations • Read your Manual • Access to tests by non-approved person • GED candidate leaves seat during test • GED test item is discussed • Essay topics are discussed • Access to GED test booklet during a challenge by candidate • Permitting essay drafts and scratch paper to remain in candidate’s possession prior to destruction • Use of any electronic devises/materials not supplied by the Examiner

  17. Consequences of Security Breach by test center may • Result in permanent closure • Restriction of GED staff to new tests • Imposition of costs to compensate for harm done * More than one loss in a two year period or two or more in a five year period will result in permanent closure of center. Three year waiting period is imposed before center may petition to re-open. **Alternate arrangements for candidates in closed center region must be made by compromised center.

  18. Center responsible for loss assumes full costs for restocking regional centers • Compromised form of GED test requires remaining forms to be returned to GEDTS Security • Access for candidates who missed opportunity will be provided by Administrator • Written report will be submitted to: Administrative Officer, GED Administrator, and GEDTS • GED Administrator will visit center and include report • Report will include: • All circumstance leading to loss • Testimony of center staff • Recommendations of GED Administrator • Revised security measures • Any administrative changes • Copy of police report

  19. Investigating Loss or Compromise: • All administration of tests must cease • Results of compromised/lost test session cannot be released • Official report to Chief Administrator, GED Administrator, GEDTS, and Scoring site • Chief or Alternate examiner will begin investigation into location of missing tests, reason for loss, and extent of loss • Police report is to be filed (lost or stolen tests) • Chief/Alternate’s report will indicate security procedures • Threat to security of test in region must be determined by Chief Administrator

  20. GED administrator will provide GEDTS with written plan of corrective actions and formal request to re-open center • If center is allowed to re-open, written notification is sent to Chief Examiner and Chief Administrative Officer
