Assam : Achievements in Foodgrain Production during last 2 years.

  • Assam has become8th largest producerin India in respect of Rice(Ranked 12th in 2006-07).
  • Increase in production during last 2 years (2010-11 over 2008-09) -

Rice : 25%

Foodgrains : 24%.

  • Increase in production during 11th Plan Period :(2010-11 over 2006-07) :

Rice : 74%

Foodgrains : 71%

Future Strategies

  • Increasing productivity through technological interventions.
  • Emphasis on irrigation through Shallow Tube Wells will continue to bring more areas under assured irrigation.
  • Additional 22,000 hectares will be brought under Hybrid Rice cultivation during 2011-12.
  • Emphasis on mechanization to assure farm power availability of 0.80 HP per hectare at the end of 11th Plan Period.
  • Extension through training & demonstration will be strengthened further.
  • Bankers will be persuaded to extend credit to farmers in bigger way.
