Prienai Sportine Aviacija company has designed one of the most advanced lightweight airplanes – LAK-17. It is 15-18m FAI class glider of carbonfibre structure and modern laminar wing section developed in Lithuania.

Its modification LAK-19 (standard FAI class glider) waspresented in 2001.

Helisota Ltd from Kaunas is testing its light JAR-VLA class trainer LAK-X. It is a modern composite two place airplane with outstanding flight characteristics and low fuel consumption. There are two main modifications of the airplane with choice of two engines (95 or 125 hp).

Conclusions

  • There is well-developed system of aeronautical research and industry institutions in Lithuania, capable to develop, build and overhaul modern light and medium size aircraft.
  • It enables Lithuania succesfully integrate into the international aeronautical activity.
  • The main aeronautical research organization of Lithuania – A. Gustaitis Aviation Institute is an active participant of European Framework Programmes 5 (UAV-NET) and aims at expanding its activity at the Framework Programmes 6.
