About Lally I established Lally Walford Interiors about 15 years ago, having worked in the interiors industry since early 2000. I grew up in an interior design environment – my mother has run a successful interior design business since before I can remember – and, having worked for a few years in London at an advertising agency, I decided to train properly in interior design and commit to what I suspected that I had always wanted to do. I have worked in London, Sydney and North Yorkshire and, following our move to Scotland in 2005, have established a wonderful, loyal and ever-increasing client base both here and further afield. Over the course of the past 22 years I have worked with a large and varied number of suppliers, tradesmen, architects and specialists in Scotland and beyond. I have gotten to know a core team of these partners well, particularly in southern Scotland, which helps me to bring increased efficiency and breadth of knowledge to my projects. I trade accounts with a large number of UK and global fabric, furniture and lighting suppliers and designers, keeping my offering up to date. I have access to, and generally use, a very wide variety of sources on all my project work. I am trained in the making of bespoke soft furnishings which has proved an invaluable skill when working on the details of projects. My team and I are committed to providing clients with a dedicated personal service and aim to create homes and offices that stand the test of time and provide pleasure and enjoyment for many years. Manor Place, Edinburgh This attractive Georgian townhouse in the West End of Edinburgh had been used as an office for many years but was very tired and in need of a full refurbishment including rewiring and re-plumbing. Several different companies were going to be using the space so the décor needed to be relatively neutral with splashes of interest here and there. The intention being that it would appeal to a broad range of people. The carpet up the staircase was a bespoke design which, when combined with the large framed posters, created a striking stairwell. The large shelving unit in our client’s office used to sit in his home office and was no longer in use so it was taken apart, moved and reassembled in this office. The gloomy rooms in the basement were to be used as a gym and changing rooms. We brightened up the space by using splashes of bright green combined with mirrors running the length and height of the wall. 31 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh We were approached by our clients, who had taken a long lease on one of the newly refurbished buildings on the southside of Charlotte Square, to design two boardrooms. The larger of the two was to be used for client meetings and was to have a luxurious and comfortable feel but not be overstated. The smaller was to be used primarily for in-house meetings and was to be a little more ‘functional’ but in keeping with our client’s corporate style. It
was also important that the design worked sympathetically with the beautiful Georgian features. All the furniture in both rooms was bespoke. The curved sides of the table in the large boardroom were designed to complement the curved wall at the end of the room and keep lines soft. The striped carpet in both rooms was also bespoke and, because the floor area was large, designed to bring subtle interest to the rooms.
