  1. How the FreeStyle Lite Blood Glucose Machine Operates

  2. Blood Sample Application: To begin testing, a small drop of blood (typically obtained by pricking the fingertip with a lancet) is applied to the designated area on the test strip. The blood is drawn into the strip via capillary action.

  3. Enzymatic Reaction: Upon contact with the blood sample, the glucose oxidase enzyme in the test strip reacts with glucose molecules present in the blood. This reaction produces gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide.

  4. Electrical Current Generation: The hydrogen peroxide generated in the reaction creates an electrical current between electrodes embedded in the test strip. The strength of this current is directly proportional to the amount of glucose in the blood sample.

  5. Signal Transmission: The electrical signal generated by the test strip is transmitted to the meter, where it is converted into a numerical value representing the blood glucose machine. The meter’s internal software processes this data and displays the result on its screen.
