What is the need for periodic classification of elements? Initially, only 31 elements were known to us. Scientists and researchers did not need to put much thought into finding out the properties of the elements. But, after some advancements in the field of science, new elements joined the periodic table and increased the number to 118. Due to this, identifying the nature & properties of the element became arduous. So scientists have classified the elements in the periodic table based on nature, atomic number & mass, and their characteristics. That’s why we need periodic classification of elements. Also, students who are in class 10 must clear the basic concepts and make proper notes for this particular chapter. They can use periodic classification of elements class 10 notes to make notes for the examination. Today there are 118 elements in the modern periodic table. Out of which 98 elements occur naturally, the remaining man-made elements were discovered in laboratories. Classification of elements in the modern periodic table Before getting dive into the classification of elements. Let’s familiarize ourselves with the basic terms used in this table.
1. Groups- The term groups refers to the columns, and a total of 18 groups are in this table. The chemical elements in the groups are arranged based on similar valence electrons. 2. Periods- The seven different horizontal rows are periods in this table. 3. Atomic number- The total number of protons in the nucleus identifies an element’s atomic number. It is denoted by Z. 4. Atomic mass- The total mass of an atomic particle is known as atomic mass. It is the mass’s sum of protons and neutrons of an atom. The modern periodic table in the figure comprises seven rows and 18 columns. Groups are categorized from 1 to 18, and the seven horizontal rows are periods in the long periodic table. The blocks in the modern periodic table are categorized into S, P, D, and F, framed on the spectroscopic lines of the atomic orbital. The modern table elements, whose last electrons enter into the outermost S orbital, are called S block elements. The elements of the modern table whose last electron enters into any of the three P orbitals are called P block elements. D & F block elements are known as transition & inner transition elements. D & F block elements are lanthenides and actenides. Benefits of classification of elements in the modern periodic table 1. The classification of elements according to their groups and periods helps us identify the elements’ particular properties. 2. With the help of this table, one can easily spot metals, non-metals, transition elements, etc. Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs) Q1. Who discovered the modern periodic table? Ans: Dmitri Mendeleev and Albert Ghiorso discovered the modern table. Q2. What is the need for the classification of the elements? Ans: Classification of elements helps us to pick out the physical and chemical properties. It also shows how compounds form with the help of elements. Q3. How many elements are in the main group Ans: The main group of elements is the elements in which the lightest
elements are helium, lithium, beryllium, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and fluorine. Q4. Who is the father of chemistry? Ans: ANTOINE LAVOISIER is known as the father of chemistry. learn more elements groupsoftable properties Ahsan Khan Related Posts Uncategorized 5 TOP DESERT CAMPS IN JAISALMER Ahsan Khan September 20, 2022 0 Comment Introduction The best way to spend a vacation is to watch the stunning sunrise and sunset from the Sam Sand Dunes at… Uncategorized Top Treks in Himachal Pradesh Ahsan Khan September 20, 2022 0 Comment Introduction In India, Himachal Pradesh is renowned for offering the best trekking opportunities.
