Wildlife conservation

Wildlife conservation is a huge concept which encompasses a wide range of different scientific and non-scientific methods which attempt to reduce the numbers of endangered species, monitor and record extinctions, limit the population of threatened or endangered species, improve animal health and wellbeing, and increase sustainable use of wildlife resources (such as land, oceans, snow, etc.).

  1. Wildlife conservation Wildlife conservation is a huge concept which encompasses a wide range of different scientific and non-scientific methods which attempt to reduce the numbers of endangered species, monitor and record extinctions, limit the population of threatened or endangered species, improve animal health and wellbeing, and increase sustainable use of wildlife resources (such as land, oceans, snow, etc.). Wildlife conservation also refers to the systematic practice of preserving wild areas and their natural ecosystems so as to sustainably bring or preserve, enhance or restore natural ecosystems and to keep natural wildlife populations in balance. The aim of this is to ensure a sustainable use of wildlife and wild habitats, while protecting them from human intrusion and habitat loss. This also aims at reducing pressures which could lead to extinction of such species. Such pressures include habitat destruction for agriculture, industry, forestry, telecommunications and hunting; changing climate and climatic conditions; introduction of invasive species; introduced toxins; introduced predators and disease; and other man made threats. The need for specialized knowledge and expertise is necessary to deal with all these problems. Specialist services are required to preserve the existing biodiversity in a specific environment. Specialized personnel and groups who are involved in wildlife conservation work for years together to save a particular species or even to bring about changes which help in conserving a particular habitat or area. Situ conservation is a part of this where trained volunteers or people from the community are given specific tasks related to saving a particular habitat or area from being destroyed by people, nature or other forces. These could be by tracking, tagging, identifying, monitoring or recording species movements, observations of particular species, etc. Another major aspect of this conservation effort is controlling the quantity and/or quality of pollutants that are entering into a particular area, for example through the planting of crops. This is done to avoid the introduction of diseases which can endanger the local wildlife. Pollution is one of the biggest threats to wildlife and to the environment as a whole. It not only causes harm to the environment but also to living creatures inside the natural habitats. Wildlife conservation efforts therefore include control of pollution as well as controlling over population of the animals; however, this is done in such a way that neither harm nor benefits are caused to the local flora and fauna.
