New Innovation Hubs Empowering Local SMEs Colleges across the West Midlands have successfully been awarded a £2.4million from Innovate UK an Initiative co designed by West Midlands Combined Authority, exclusively for regional Further Education establishments. The Investment will be used to work in partnership with local SME’s to drive regional business growth and innovation practices across a range of industry sectors including: manufacturing, construction, dental, digital, and engineering Significant Investment Results • This ground-breaking initiative has led to: • Creation of three main innovation hubs across Birmingham, the Black Country, Coventry and Warwickshire. • Birmingham hub led by BMet and operating from Matthew Boulton College.

Matthew Boulton Campus TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION At Matthew Boulton College, there will be two centres available to SME’s, one in the college’s new Dental Suite and the other in the digital suite focussing on cyber and AI. INNOVATION NAVIGATOR OFFERING The Innovation Navigator is a FREE Business Support programme offering a range of training, development and access to opportunities for local businesses across the West Midlands. • In Person and Virtual training • 1 to 1 Business Support • Access to finance and investment opportunities. • Networking and Introductions • Technology Adoption Plan • Certificate of completion
INNOVATION NAVIGATOR OUTPUTS • Boosting creativity and collaboration across industry sectors. • SMEs improve productivity and growth through improved technology adaptation. • Workforce industry exchange for better understanding of trends and working practices within industry • Improving opportunities for businesses to hire from local population • Regional economic impact - attract inward investment • Access to services for businesses within further education and industry
INNOVATE UK PROJECT AIM NON - PROFITS OBJECTIVES DENTAL • Dental Technology-providing technology LED training, focused on AI • and bringing more accurate diagnosis and patient care, tele-dentistry consultations and XR to improve patient care and experience. CAD/ CAM Centring & Milling techniques. Business Support Services - Focusing on providing modular training to support SMEs within the Social Economy Sector, to improve digital capability for current staff, particularly within high business risk areas such as cybersecurity and sustainability. CHALLENGESs • Local SMEs need help identifying business needs, no funds for innovation, time poor, low – no access to resources and facilities, reluctant to change. • BMET BUSINESS INNOVATION PROGRAMME: 12 WK FREE SECTOR SPECIFIC BUSINESS INNOVATION SUPPORT PRODUCT STRATEGY • KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE | TALENT & CLUTURE | NETWORKING & OPPORTUNITIES • Onboarding x20 Organisations from Dental Sector and Non- Profit sector as participants of the BMet College Innovation Programme Pilot • Hackathon – ‘Exploring The New’ • In Person & Online, Industry Workshop & Event Series • Brokerage to college partners • Access to college Tours & facilities • Appointed dedicated Innovation Practitioner for each sector | 1 to 1 drop - in session availability & ongoing support • EACH SME WILL COMPLETE ENGAGEMENT REVIEWS: TECH ADOPTION PLAN | PROGRESS CHECK IN | PROGRESS REPORT • End of programme support plan • Certificate of Completion • Celebrate success / Event KPIs No. of SME's adopting new tech over 12 month.
