  1. PRESENT PERFECT VS. SIMPLE PAST UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PAST EXPERIENCES AND COMPLETED ACTIONS.

  2. In this lesson, we will learn two important verb tenses in English. You will learn when to use the Present Perfect to talk about experiences and the Simple Past for completed events. Let's see everyday examples and practice together! Study English

  3. CLASS OBJECTIVES Understand the use of Present Perfect to talk about experiences and actions linked to the present. Understand the Simple Past to talk about actions completed at a specific time in the past. Learn the affirmative, negative and interrogative structure of each tense. Compare the two verb tenses with practical, everyday examples.

  4. PRESENT PERFECT – DEFINITION AND USAGE The Present Perfect is used to talk about past actions or experiences that have a connection with the present. Everyday examples: "I have visited my cousin." (I visited my cousin.) or "She has eaten lunch." (She had lunch.)

  5. Affirmative: Subject + have/has + past participle Ex.: "I have studied." Negative: Subject + haven't/hasn't + past participle Ex.: "He hasn't seen that movie." Interrogative: Have/Has + subject + past participle? Ex.: "Have you finished your homework?" Structure:

  6. PRESENT PERFECT EXAMPLES AND ACTIVITY "I have played soccer." "She has visited a museum." "They have eaten pizza." Fill in the blank: "I ___________ (to go) to the cinema this week."

  7. SIMPLE PAST – DEFINITION AND USAGE The Simple Past is used to talk about actions completed at a specific time in the past. Everyday examples: "I went to the park yesterday." (Eu fui ao parque ontem.) or "He watched a movie last night." Ele assistiu a um filme ontem à noite.)

  8. STRUCTURE: Affirmative: Subject + past verb Ex.: "I studied." Negative: Subject + didn't + base form of the verb Ex.: "She didn't call." Interrogative: Did + subject + base form of the verb? Ex.: "Did you see the game?"

  9. Examples and Activity "I walked to school." "She cooked dinner last night." "They visited their grandparents on Sunday." Simple Past Discussion question: "What did you do last weekend?"

  10. COMPARISON: PRESENT PERFECT VS. SIMPLE PAST Present Perfect: Action without specific time, linked to the present. Ex.: "I have lived here for five years." Simple Past: Action completed within a specific time. Ex.: "I lived here in 2015."
