COURSE OBJECTIVES • Upon successful completion of this course, it will: • Provide the students with the knowledge and understanding of the classification of the chemical industry. • Provide a general understanding of the basic industries based on petrochemicals, downstream industries. • Create a real market environment via training in private and governmental sectors. • Create a joint collaboration between the University and the industrial sectors.

Topics to be Covered • IntroductionLectures (2) • What is industrial chemistry; raw materials for the chemical process industries (Petroleum and its products, natural gas and biomass conversion), Industrial catalysis; Choice of catalysis, homogenous and heterogeneous catalysis. • 2) Polymer industriesLectures (4) • - Manufactured Textile Fibers (acrylic fibers, nylon fibers, and polyester fibers) • - Synthetic Resins, Plastics, and Rubber. • - The Chemistry of Structural Adhesives: Epoxy, Urethane, and Acrylic Adhesives. • 1st Midterm Exam
