What is a garageman's lien

A garageman's lien, also known as a mechanic's lien, is a legal claim that a repair shop, marina, tow company or parking garage can make on a vehicle to recover unpaid repair bills or storage fees. This lien gives the marina, garage or tow yard the right to keep the vehicle until the outstanding debt is paid. If the debt is not paid, the garage or marina may be able to sell the vehicle to recover the debt owed including the costs of processing the lien.
