  1. 2009 Australian International 3 Day Event • The Australian International 3 Day Event is the best attended and most significant horse sport event staged in the Southern Hemisphere; • The 2009 event will see Australia’s best event riders compete against their New Zealand rivals in the Trans Tasman Championships. • Consistently attracts elite International and Australian competitors and horses, including many Olympians; • 2009 event will be held from Friday 13 - Sunday 15 November; • One of only six “four star” (Olympic Standard) events in the world and the only one of this calibre in the Southern Hemisphere; Australian International 3 Day Event 13-15 Nov 09

The Three Day Event • The sport of the Three Day Event is one of Australia’s most successful Olympic disciplines. • Australia has a long history of success in Eventing, dating back to Bill Roycroft in the 1960 Rome Olympics, to riders such as Andrew Hoy, Gillian Rolton and Wendy Schaeffer all Olympic Gold Medalists, and most recently Australia’s Clayton Fredericks, who is currently the World Eventing Champion. • Combines three distinct disciplines – Dressage, Cross Country and Show Jumping. • Significant television appeal, particularly cross country phase.   9. Dressage The dressage phase is a test of elegance in motion, challenging horse and rider to complete a series of choreographed movements with precision and flair. Cross Country The Cross Country is the most exhilarating discipline of the three day event. It requires determination, courage, and trust between horse and rider to successfully complete the seven kilometre course over imposing obstacles through Adelaide’s spectacular parklands. Show jumping The showjumping phase is the nail biting culmination of competition, requiring the precision of show jumping against the clock, where a single miss-step can mean the difference between winning and losing. International competition There are only six four-star (CCI ****) events in the world, Badminton and Burghley in the UK, Kentucky in the USA, Luhmühlen in Germany and Adelaide, South Australia.   13. 2009 Event Details • In 2009, the competition will be even more fierce as Australia attempts to retain the Trans Tasman Cup for a second consecutive event against the New Zealanders. • The Trans Tasman Cup is held every second year and Australia’s most successful riders compete against New Zealand’s best riders and horses. • The 2009 Australian International 3 Day Event will build on the success of the supporting events held in 2008, to attract a greater audience and strengthen the events’ appeal to more members of the public. • Rymill Park will again be the ‘heart’ of the event with the Main Arena hosting the Dressage and Show Jumping, the most exciting and significant Cross Country sections, the Trade Village and a carnival atmosphere all close to the action in Rymill Park. Supporting Events Dressage Day (Friday) Dressage with the Stars Luncheon – held in the VIP Marquee, with a fashion parade, auction, exceptional food and wine and featuring an exhibition of freestyle dressage with some of Australia’s best dressage riders. Cross Country Day (Saturday) Grape and Gourmet Gallop – Spectators get the chance to taste the best of South Australia’s food and wine while watching Australia’s elite horse and riders traverse the cross country course. Creating a true picnic environment, visitors can grab a glass of wine and gourmet food from some of the State’s highly acclaimed food and wine regions. Show Jumping Day (Sunday) Cross Country Challenge - School children and pony club members from across South Australia have the opportunity to run a section of the ‘four-star’ cross country course like the professionals and get up close with some of South Australia’s sporting elite and Olympic athletes. Trade Village (Duration of event) The 2009 Trade Village has expanded its focus to include all things lifestyle as well as equestrian. The Trade Village will be located around the Main Arena, ‘the heart of the event’, in Rymill Park, ensuring greater visitor flow across the three days.
