  1. Everything You Need to Know About Linen Linen is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, having been used in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece. Because of its adaptability, endurance, and strength, it has been a popular fabric for centuries. While linen is commonly thought of as a luxury, lightweight fabric that is known for its breathability, durability, and strength, there are a few more things you should know about it, which we’ll go over in this post. What is Linen Linen is a sustainable fabric. It is a natural fiber that is made from flax fibers which come from the flax plant. Linen is one of the oldest textiles known to man-kind, going back to Egyptians who used linen to wrap mummies. History of Linen ● Linen was quickly embraced in Europe, where it was widely used during medieval times, beginning with early Mediterranean civilizations. ● It was the first fiber used in fabric weaving, and it remained the most popular until the introduction of cotton fabrics in the 1300s. ● This also remained relevant until the invention of spinning machines in the 18th century. ● Because of the time-consuming process of producing linen yarn, the finished result remains an expensive product and is frequently viewed as a premium textile.

  2. How Linen is made 1. Linen has to pass through various processes before it comes to your home, as it is a prolonged approach and needs limitless artisanship and proficiency to go with. Here is how it is made? 2. Planting: Flax plants are generally planted in the winter, as they cannot tolerate the heat, and after approximately 100 days the flax plants are harvested. 3. Harvesting: Flax plants are harvested when the stem turns yellow and the seeds turn brown. The plants are harvested by pulling them out of the ground by hand, however there are machines that can do the same job. 4. Dry: The stalks are stacked to dry and then the seeds are removed. 5. Separating the fibers: The fiber is extracted by breaking the woody stalk of the plant into pieces called shives, without harming the flax fiber. This used to be a labor-intensive process done by hand. Today, everything is done with scutchers, machines that break the stalk and separate the shives mechanically. 6. Spinning: After the separation of fibers, they are spun into thin strands. They are then bleached and dyed as required. Final Product: A loom is used to weave the strands into pieces of cloth which are then cut and sewn into beautiful linen products. Reasons Why Linen is Best As we know linen is the strongest natural fiber and more durable than cotton, etc. These fabrics never lose their shape after washing, linen has many properties which can be the best option for summers and hot weather. 1. Cool and Comfy- Linen is cooler than cotton, as they are large, hollow, and wide this is the only reason that it is breathable and able to absorb moisture rapidly, linen is woven loosely and doesn’t stick to the body, as a result, air can easily passes through from this fabric and this fabric provides coolness in under extremely hot weather. Linen duvet cover is widely used all over the world because of its coolness and comfortability. 2. Quick Absorbent- yet another feature of linen is it is quick absorbent, it can easily grab 20% of moisture, which results in an ideal choice for the consumers who sweat a lot. 3. Environment Friendly- Linen plant i.e, flax plant requires a lower amount of water to grow. Linen is a natural fiber and can be recycled and reprocessed in multiple ways. 4. Great when it comes to looks- Linen clothing is always on trend. Linens are durable fabrics and can be a best friend when you are outside in the summer. They are loved by both men and women from tees to dresses to pants, they are incredible for everyone.

  3. How to Care for linen Linen that has been manufactured well and treated can be machine or hand washed. It can even be tumble-dried at very low temperatures. If there is a stain or mark on your garment, try to pre-treat it before washing it. 1. Washing and stain removal: Wash linens in lukewarm water, and never in cold or hot water. Use a mild detergent for delicate fabrics and never use fabric softener, bleach, or any other household cleaners. If you happen to encounter a strong stain, never overuse bleach or any other stain removal product, as they can lead to yellowing and increased deterioration of the fibers. Dab the stain immediately with a suitable stain remover (baking soda and white vinegar are a good home solution), testing on a non-visible area, is a good first check, to see if the color stays or begins to disappear. Linen bedding absorbs less stains and they are really easy to keep clean. 2. Drying: The preferred way to dry your linen sheets is by hanging them up and letting them dry naturally. If not, place the sheets in the dryer on a low tumble setting. Make sure to remove the linen while still slightly damp. Place the sheets on the bed or hang them somewhere to air dry the rest of the way. This will prevent wrinkles. Linen is a cool and comfortable fabric and loved by everyone, linen clothing is great and so are linen sheets. They are very comfortable to sleep in. Although, they can be a little more expensive.
