  2. There are lots of testimonies as to the origin of the ukulele in Hawaii however the most commonly accepted is that it first showed up in Honolulu on August 23, 1879 with Portuguese immigrant Joao Fernandez. He obviously was so happy to have fulfilled the 4 month, 15,000 mile voyage from Portugal that he hopped onto the dock and started out playing his cavaquinho (a four stringed instrument formed like a small guitar). The Hawaiians were so amazed with the speed of his fingers travelling over the fingerboard that they termed it the "ukulele", which translates to "the leaping flea". Ukuleles For Sale

  3. The Hawaiians were brisk to follow the instrument as their own and the next ten years, it had become amongst the most famous musical instrument in Hawaii. It was so popular that perhaps King David Kalakaua, the last reigning monarch of Hawaii, had to learn to play it. The Ruler learned to play along with built his own ukuleles because of Augusto Dias, one of many initial ukulele luthiers in Hawaii. The Hawaiians didn't discover the ukulele, but rather it was given to them by Portuguese immigrants who stumbled onto the island. Since then, Hawaiians have used the instrument as an integral part of performances, shows and showcases of the different wonders of the Hawaiian Islands. Ukuleles For Sale

  4. Hawaiian ukuleles are considered to be some of the best in the world. Although there are many ukuleles that are made of plastic, this type of ukulele is made of mahogany wood. The company that manufactures these instruments uses the wood because of its ability to give elegance to the instrument. The wood is also very durable and is known as one of the toughest in the world. Hawaiian ukuleles are very popular because of their association in almost every aspect of Hawaiian culture. For example, when people view a performance such as the hula, the instrument that is being used in the background to produce that soothing, calming music is none other than the ukulele. 5. Another example is during singing competitions held on the mainland. Hawaiians have a strong love of music and usually when they perform, they choose a song which has a melody that can be covered through the use of Hawaiian ukuleles. This gives the song a slower tempo and a much more soothing tone which then translates to the mood that is being set on the island. Hawaiian ukuleles are a very strong part of Hawaiian culture. In almost every musical and performance aspect of Hawaiian culture, a ukulele is involved one way or another. They can be seen in singing competitions, fire eating shows, musical performances and hula dancers. Ukuleles For Sale
