  1. Flap Discs for Metal Grinding and Polishing | Jirawala Tradelink The Abrasive components for Grinding flap disc and Abrasive Machining operations are contained in wheels. These wheels are also used in grinders. The wheels are typically made from Composite Material. This is composed of coarse-particle aggregate, pressed and bonded together using a cementing material (known as the bonds in grinder wheel terminology). The result is a solid circular shape. Different cross sections and profiles are available depending upon the intended purpose of the wheel. They can also be made of a solid steel disc or an aluminum disc with particles bonded onto the surface. While most modern grinding wheels are artificially made with artificial aggregates, their history began with natural stones. These were the same ones used for millstones. This wheel manufacturing process is precise and controlled due to both the inherent safety risks and the uniformity of the composition required to prevent the disc from exploding under the high stresses of rotation. Consumables can be used to grind wheels. The life span, however, can vary depending on the application, and can range from a few days up to several years. The wheel will occasionally release individual grains of abrasive when it cuts.

  2. This occurs because the wheels become duller and the increased drag pulls the grains out of the bond. The wear process results in the release of new grains which are then used to start the next cycle. This is necessary to ensure good performance. GRINDERS & POLISHERS Highly reflective sample surfaces can be prepared with metallographic processing Grinding and polishing are the last stage of the metallographic sample preparation and involve several steps. Each step uses a finer, more reflective abrasive than others. The ultimate goal is to have a smooth, non-deformable, scratch-free, and high-reflective sample surface. To see the material’s microstructure, it is possible to examine the sample, either unetched or etched. Contrasts can sometimes only be visible after a successful step of etching. Metal cutting: Where parts take form You only have one chance to get your metal pieces cut exactly how you want them. It is important to use a cutting wheel that cuts quickly and cleanly so you can do the job right and get the most out of your time. 3M creates innovative abrasive tools for cutting steel tubes, sheets and bars. Each product speeds up cutting and makes it more accurate. Flap Discs by 3M: The flexible alternative. Flap discs are one of the most widely used abrasives worldwide in metal fabrication shops. Shop operators and shop owners depend on flap disks for their versatility and long-lasting durability. Because they are more flexible than other types of abrasive discs and wheels, anyone can use them. They are less likely not to damage metal when scrubbing it. Fiber discs have a higher efficiency than other grinding wheels and are longer lasting. However they are not as flexible as flap discs in terms of application. After every grinding step, they leave behind a finer and cleaner finish.

  3. 3M’s technological innovations and decades of experience result in the flap discs. Type 27 (flat) or 29 (tall) are available in a variety sizes and attachment options to match your angler.
