    5. About Eric Carle

    6. About Eric Carle

    7. Noticings We noticed he uses many different ways to draw his pictures. He uses tissue paper, painting, and mixtures. We noticed his books are colorful and creative. We noticed the actual pages in the books change shape. We noticed that he writes and illustrates his own stories. We noticed his books usually have bugs in them as the main characters. We noticed he has engaging beginnings that set the mood. We noticed that books written by Eric Carle have his signature on the front cover whereas if they are only illustrated by him, his name is typed.

    8. Wonderings We wonder how he is able to use tissue paper and paint together. We wonder how he is able to be so creative. We wonder why Eric Carle decided to become an author since he began as an illustrator. We wonder where his ideas come from. We wonder how he makes the art found in the story. We wonder how he is able to write easy stories and hard stories. We wonder if he will continue to write new and exciting stories.

    9. Connections We noticed that he uses many different colors for his art but all of his stories are very ors colorful and bright. We made the connection that Bill Peet was a lot like Eric Carle. Both authors started as illustrators first and then became authors themselves. Bill Peet worked for Walt Disney and Eric Carle worked for Bill Martin. We connected his stories were related to the life cycle of various insects. We connected Eric Carles stories to a wide range of places on earth.

    12. We are working toward the standard! We read and comprehended at least four books (or book equivalents) by a single writer, or four books in one genre, and produced evidence of reading. We made and supported warranted and responsible assertions about the texts. We supported assertions with elaborated and convincing evidence. We drew the texts together to compare and contrast themes, characters, and ideas. We made perceptive and well-developed connections. We evaluated writing strategies and elements of the authors craft.
