  2. 020 31955250 hello@highstakesfilms.com • A film production company can help you with many different aspects of making a film. In this article, we’ll be giving you an overview of the areas a production company can assist with. • Preproduction • Preproduction is the first stage of film production. Film production companies will brainstorm, plan, and develop concepts during this stage. Preproduction is when a team will finalise a budget, create their script, and schedule how and when the film will be shot. Well thought out and organised projects will use this stage to comprehensively layout and arrange all the future steps of the film. Often the success or failure of a movie will depend on how well this stage is conceptualised. A film production company will consider: • Concept creation: This is research about your film's story, characters, and theme. • Concept development: This expands your concept to include lighting, visuals and script. • Storyboarding: This visual representation of the sequences you want to capture in your film.

  3. 020 31955250 hello@highstakesfilms.com • Art direction: This deals with the production's visual style and may include set, costumes, and animation design. • Suppose you already have an idea in mind. In that case, a film production company will show you how to develop and actualise that idea. They will know all the steps you need to consider to create a successful film. But, on the other hand, if you only have a vague idea of what kind of project you want to make, they will help you conjure new ideas. • Production • Production is the stage where the film is shot. It will be the execution of all the ideas that you developed in preproduction. A film production company will organise the film crew, actors and equipment needed for filming. Depending on the type of film, they will utilise: • AV: Av stands for audio-visual. This incorporates the use of microphones, tape, disk, audio mixers, still and video cameras, to name a few. • Stills: These are photographs taken during filming. Film stills can be used for promotions and advertising.

  4. 020 31955250 hello@highstakesfilms.com • Animation: To capture specific parts of a film, a production team may use animation and CG(computer-generated graphics) to capture scenes otherwise not possible. • Illustration: Illustrations may be taken from the preproduction stage and used as a model for creating scenes and capturing ambience. • Post-production • Post-production is the final stage of film production. A film production company will take the film into editing. An editor will go shot by shot to ensure that everything is up to standard. Then, they can add music, effects, dubbing and more. • Retouching: Retouching is used to improve the visual outcomes of a film. Editors can adjust the lighting, appearance of actors and staging of a cut. • Sound Design: This is the process and art of creating the audio element of a film. • Design & Visual effects: VFX or visual effects refers to imagery generated or manipulated after the live filming of a scene, i.e. computer-generated effects.

  5. 020 31955250 hello@highstakesfilms.com • Motion graphics: Motion graphics are a simplified form of animation. It is where a graphic is moved on the screen. For example, it may be used for the title sequence. • VO: This stands for voice over. It is commonly used for narration which features an off-screen voice. In other words, the viewer cannot see the speaker. In animation, it may appear as though a voice over comes from a character. • Takeaways • As we have discussed, a film production company is necessary to guide you through the different stages of making a film. Each step is a crucial part of what can define or delimit the accomplishment of the finished piece. • At High stakes films, our emphasis is on interpreting contemporary culture through the lens of film. We explore modern identity, values and stories with brands to create uniquely branded film content. Have a look at our previous projects.
