  1. THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OPEN AND LAPAROSCOPIC HERNIA SURGERY A hernia is a common problem, and people tend to ignore a hernia until it becomes a severe problem later. However, it is dangerous to ignore a hernia, and surgery is the best option. Two popular types of surgery are available - open hernia surgery and Laparoscopic surgery. Patients are often confused about which type of surgery they should choose. Open surgery is recommended by some doctors, while others prefer laparoscopic procedures. Open Surgery Open surgery involves opening the abdomen where the doctor makes a large incision across the abdomen. An open procedure is recommended if a hernia has been present for a prolonged period or is very large. Sometimes, a surgeon may need to convert a laparoscopic hernia operation into an open procedure if necessary. This is often done to minimize tissue damage and bleeding. Laparoscopic surgery Laparoscopic hernia surgery, a more complex procedure, has only been used on a large scale in the past 20-30 years. It is important to remember that Laparoscopic hernia is a more advanced procedure and should only be performed by a skilled surgeon. Many people prefer open surgery due to the higher cost of laparoscopic surgery. This is often a wise economic decision because the patient has a faster recovery and spends less time in hospital and on medications. Laparoscopic surgery is the most common method of repairing hernias. The main reasons are: · Patients can resume normal activities about a week sooner than with open surgery. · After the procedure, there is usually no need to stay in the hospital. · Scars are much smaller than open surgery (1-2 cm incisions instead of 4-5 cm incisions). · Patients with little/no pain generally experience less after surgery. Here is a look at other procedures that are performed using laparoscopic techniques:

  2. Gallstones Laparoscopic Surgery Laparoscopic gallbladder removal is the best way to treat gallstones that cause symptoms. Surgery eliminates gallstones located inside the gallbladder. The procedure does not eliminate stones from the bile duct in general. Gallstones may form inside the common bile canal year after removing the gallbladder, but this is extremely rare. Removal of the gallbladder will relieve the pain and treat the gallstone-related infection. It also stops gallstones from recurring. If gallstones don't get treated, pain and infection could become worse. The gallbladder can burst, and this could be life-threatening. Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Surgery A laparoscopic hysterectomy is an operation to remove the uterus. Your fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, or a portion of your vagina may require removal. The organs and tissues to be removed will depend on the medical condition you are suffering from. Laparoscopic Ovarian Cystectomy An ovarian cystectomy is a procedure to eliminate an ovarian cyst. Laparoscopic operation is a minimally-invasive surgical technique involving tiny incisions on your abdomen. Most often, cysts can produce no or minimal symptoms. However, surgical removal of the cysts could be the most effective treatment option if the cyst is creating pain or uncomfortable systems. A few indications associated with an ovarian cyst are pelvic pain, particularly when you have your period or sexual intimacy. Open or laparoscopic hernia surgery: Which is best for you? The laparoscopic approach has some disadvantages over traditional open surgery. Two factors are significant: first, the surgeon uses instruments at a distance to manipulate tissue, and second, the video camera doesn't provide the same depth of vision that directs eyesight as it can increase the risk of injury. When deciding on the type of hernia surgery that is right for your needs, there are many things you need to consider. · The placement and size of a hernia · There is a risk of complications

  3. · The surgeon's level of skill · Budget for surgery · Your overall health and medical history You must discuss these factors with your doctor, along with any questions you might have regarding your hernia surgery. These experts will help you choose the right type of surgery for you.
