Best PET CT Scan Test by Ganesh Diagnostic Centre in Delhi

PET scan, which is known as the Positron emission tomography type, is a procedure of nuclear medicine that measures the metabolic activities of the cells of the body tissues. It collects the very small details of the three-dimensional pictures within the body. The pictures show a transparent part of the body being investigated and show whether the body is functioning or not. The clearer pictures will be seen as compared to the CT scan.

  1. PET (Positron Emission Tomography) CT (Computed Tomography) Scan

  2. The PET CT scan stands for Positron Emission Tomography which is used to detect early signs of cancer, heart diseases as well as rule out any possibility of brain disorders. It is an injectable radioactive tracer which uses advanced technology in order to identify the root cause of the disease cells and is also a combination of PET-CT scan producing 3D images of a more accurate diagnosis. It is a procedure of nuclear medicine that measures the metabolic activities of the cells of the body tissues. It collects the details of the three dimensional images inside of the body. The images show a clear part of the body being investigated and shows which function of the body is working or not. The clearer images can be seen as compared to the CT scan.

  3. Ganeshdiagnostic The doctors get to perform the nuclear medicine exams on the outpatients and hospitalized patients who are made to lie down on the exam table. If it is considered necessary, the nurse or the technologist will insert an intravenous (IV) catheter into the vein of your arm or hand. PET scans only use radiotracer injections. It takes about 30-0 minutes to travel through the body and get absorbed in the area under the examination. One will be asked to rest and avoid any kind of talking and movement. It is also advised to drink some contrast material which localizes in the intestines and helps in the radiologist interpreting the examination. One will be moved into the PET/CT scanner in order to begin imaging. One will need to remain still during the imaging. The CT exam takes place first, followed by the PET scan. On one occasion, a second CT scan with intravenous contrast will follow the PET scan. The CT scan takes less than two minutes while the PET scan takes 20-30 minutes. Total scanning time is usually about 30 minutes and depends on which area is under examination, with additional tests involving other tracers or drugs which may be used. For example – if one is examined for heart disease, one may undergo a PET scan both before and after exercising or before and after receiving IV medication which increases blood flow to the heart. If you have an intravenous line for the procedure, your technologist will usually remove it and the technologist will leave it in place if you are to have another procedure the same day.

  4. Ganeshdiagnostic The PET CT scan is a safe test for most of the people. Unlike all medical tests, it has some risks. It is the duty of the doctor to ensure the benefits of PET CT scan outweighs the risks involved. Pregnancy Pregnant women should only have the scan in an emergency scenario. There is a risk that the radiation could harm the developing baby. Contact the department beforehand in case you are pregnant. Breastfeeding If you are breastfeeding, let the department know a few days before the appointment. They will surely let you know if you need to stop breastfeeding for the length of time after having the radioactive drug. One might need to store enough expressed milk for at least one feed. Radiation There is a high chance of exposure to radiation during the PET CT scan which can slightly increase one’s risk of developing cancer in the time to come. Since it is important to talk to your doctor if this concern worries you, one is advised to keep in close contact with the doctor. Bruising and Swelling One might get a smaller bruise around the area where they put the needle in. There is however a risk that the radioactive tracer will leak outside the vein. It can cause swelling and pain in the arm although it is a rare phenomenon. Allergic Reaction Rarely, people have an allergic reaction to the radioactive tracer which most often starts with weakness, sweating and difficulty in breathing. Once you tell your radiographer immediately in case you are feeling unwell.

  5. Brain PET CT Scan Brain PET CT Scan is a Positron Emission Tomography- Computed Tomography test. This imaging testrequires you to consume nuclear medicines at least one hour before starting the diagnosis. Kindly sit or lie at one place without moving so that radiotracers can find the targeted area and accumulate to emit the radiation for scanner to trace and develop image. It is a safe diagnosis and patients never face any kind of problem. Brain PET CT Scan proves highly useful to detect several types of brain disorders including but not limited to diseased tissues, seizure disorders, brain injuries, drug abuse and many others. What Brain PET CT Scan shows This imaging test can show clear images of tissues and other abnormalities to find out the exact cause of disease and find the best treatment and medicines to recover in a safe and quick time. This is currently the best diagnosis available so far. Why Neurologist Orders Brain PET CT Scan? Neurologist can order Brain PET CT Scan if manual inspection does not help to find the root cause of the problem. A highly advanced PET scanner effectively detects the gamma radiations to create the detailed image of affected part of the brain. Preparation For A Brain PET CT Scan Your doctor will undoubtedly give you all instructions while scheduling the test. Preparations for this imaging test basically start 2 days before. You are requested to stay away of all kinds of strenuous physical activities like: Gym Swimming Running, etc. In addition, you are required to stop consuming: Breads Cereals Cakes Junk Food Items Alcohol is also strictly denied! These items might distort the results!

  6. Cardiac PET CT Scan is basically a heart imaging test that basically uses radiotracers, given by Pills, gas or injected, in your body to check whether you are suffering from Poor blood circulation in the heart. Be careful during the test. Your unnecessary activity might distort the image. Start Following doctor's instructions before 48 hours of the scheduled time and wait for 60-70 minutes at one place after taking the nuclear medicine. waiting will allow radiotracers to find the targeted area and accumulate for the given purpose. Quick facts about Cardiac PET CT Scan • Cardiac PET CT Scan uses radiotracers • A highly sensitive scanner traces the gamma rays emitted by the radio tracers • A computer then process these signals into the detailed images to create report and identify the intensity of the problem • This imaging test also tells whether tablets need to be taken ora surgery needs to be done to restore blood supply to the heart When doctor suggest for Cardiac PET CT Scan? Doctor generally suggest undergoing Cardiac PET CT Scan when he wants to know the real time details regarding blood circulation to heart, oxygen intake level of the body, metabolism rate and other vital details. How my body reacts after Cardiac PET CT Scan? This test is an OPD procedure. So, you can normally return to home/office like once the test is successfully done. You are however advised to remain away of kids and ladies for their safety. Contact with pregnant ladies might prove highly problematic for mother and infant both. You might also witness traces of nuclear waste while urinating.

  7. PET–CT Scan stands for Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography Scan. This diagnose imaging test combines two scans and is primarily being used to detect different kinds of health issues including Cancer, Heart Problems, Brain Disorders (including but not limited to central nervous system), etc. This test detects the illness at cellular level. Therefore, you get exact report about the illness. Few hours before starting the diagnosis, you will be given a special type of Nuclear Medicine including radiotracers in the form of tablet or injection depending upon the nature of illness and targeted body part. These radiotracers will find and accumulate at the targeted area to emit Gamma Rays. A highly sensitive PET Scanner machine will track these radiation to create the image and provide the required details about the illness. Affected body will look as bright spots on PET CT Scan. This imaging test also calculates oxygen used by your body, blood circulation, response of sugar on your body. PET-CT Scan is an OPD procedure so you can immediately return to daily activities of routine life once the scan is done. Some Other Points To Follow Are: Do not eat chewing gum or keep any sugary candy in mouth during the diagnosis Remove jewellery items or other types of metal items from and around body (metals disturb functioning of scanner to distort images) Remain cool and calm (it is a safe and reliable scan to detect specific illnesses) Pregnant Ladies: Pregnant Ladies are advised to not go for PET-CT Scan. It proves unsafe for unborn baby. Exposure to radiation causes highly problematic issues to compromise upon big terms. Lactating Mothers: Lactating Mothers are also advised to avoid this test. Presence of radiotracers in body will restrict you to breastfeed baby for up to 24-36 hours. People with allergies and other complicated conditions: Allergic people are also advised to take care before making a decision for PET-CT Scan. People with other complicated conditions also need to discuss with technologist in concern of safety and other kinds of harms. Kidney Patients: Discuss all points with the technologist, to gain confidence, if you are a kidney patient. You are also advised to take specific precautions as per the instructions of the doctor.
