Andje views each case as an opportunity to help her clients and benefit the community. Whether by taking unsafe products off the market or pushing companies to implement better safety training, the firm aims to create a positive ripple effect on society. Andje is unafraid to take challenging cases to trial or to demand justice for her clients when defendants refuse to accept responsibility or undervalue the harm they have caused. Co-founded Firm to Guide Clients Through Litigation Andje and her partners built Altair Law as a firm of trial attorneys that litigate cases from start to finish. Andje, as well as each of Altair's attorneys, has been trial-tested and industry- recognized for achieving outstanding results in court. Dedicated to Leadership and Mentorship in the Legal Community Andje's goal is for Altair Law to continue its organic and thoughtful growth while maintaining its reputation for providing the highest quality legal representation. Outside the courtroom, Andje remains active in the legal community, serving in various leadership roles in state and local professional organizations that champion fair and equal access to justice. She serves on the Board of Governors at large for the California Consumer Attorneys Association and the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association. She is a frequent author and lecturer throughout California. Strength in Diversity On opportunities for women to grow and lead in the industry, Andje finds that there is strength in diversity: diversity of experience, diversity of perspective, and diversity in representation. She has observed that the strongest legal teams often include women in strategy roles. And she believes women are natural storytellers, inherently empathetic, and keenly organized. Andje leads with civility, character, and integrity. She understands this career can be daunting and antagonistic; however, she counters that by regularly mentoring attorneys and law students. Andje notes that clients, courts, organizations, and other attorneys expect women in leadership. She sees this as indicative of a radical transformation in the legal profession and litigation. Andje knows that when women can reach their potential, Altair Law's clients and the community will be better served. Andje leads by example, seeks talented employees, and champions her peers. Andje epitomizes the saying that "a rising tide lifts all boats." Not only has her mentorship guided attorneys and law students to reach their potential, but Andje's mentorship relationships often result in her own professional and business growth, from learning trial strategies from peers to receiving case referrals from former law students. By investing in others, Andje demonstrates that you can also successfully invest in yourself. Embracing Hybrid Work Culture According to Andje, in this post-COVID era, employers must embrace the workforce shift towards a hybrid work- from-home culture. For Altair Law, the primary focus is on the quality of the team members, regardless of their location. They have built a more diverse and well-rounded team by broadening their search beyond the immediate area. Sustaining Excellence in Legal Representation Since its inception, Altair Law has consistently received outstanding results for its clients due to Andje and her partners' dedication to their clients and employees. The firm prides itself on being approachable, solving real problems for real people, and growing to meet its clients' needs. Altair Law emphasizes weekly on-camera team meetings and biannual in-person weekend retreats to foster firm culture and teamwork and mitigate the loss of natural collaboration in a remote work environment. Andje shares that Altair Law's growth has been both organic and systematic. To deliver the best client experience, Altair Law carefully selects and fosters the most talented team members, including those in non-lawyer positions. For instance, the recent hiring of a Chief Operating Officer, an uncommon role in a plaintiff-focused personal injury firm, has allowed the partners to concentrate on what they do best—trial practice. Andje believes that a company's culture is defined by its investment in its team. Altair Law prioritizes flexibility and ensures everyone has the tools to succeed and feel valued. This approach has fostered employee loyalty and resulted in low turnover. Thinking outside the box and testing the limits of traditional law firm practices are two reasons Altair Law is consistently seen as an industry leader in the community. Fortunestime.com | 13
Finding Role Models with Similar Values Andje offers valuable advice for those starting their careers: find a mentor who exemplifies the work-life balance you seek. She emphasizes the importance of surrounding yourself with individuals who share your core values and a similar metric for measuring success. This will help you avoid burnout. But, if burnout does occur, Andje recommends taking a break and remembering that life is long. She chooses to enjoy the journey and not dwell on each obstacle or achievement. As a new mom, she constantly reminds herself that life is about balance. Only recently, in her well-established career, did she feel she had the space to have a child. She recalls looking around the decision-making tables at other firms and seeing few women and even fewer with children. That's not the culture at Altair. "I'm proud that we have built a firm where family is valued and encouraged," Andje protests proudly. She shares that being a mom has made her a better advocate and has allowed her to feel and express love and loss in new and more powerful ways. Her best advice for young lawyers is to bet on yourself and take risks. For aspiring trial attorneys, she emphasizes the importance of trying their first case as soon as possible. She believes that pulling off the "band- aid" at the first opportunity will bring relief and confidence, ensuring they never look back. 14 | July 2024

Leslie Mogensen Leslie Mogensen worked for a small aircraft brokerage, doing administrative tasks for a sales team member, following more than two decades of employment in the corporate world. He conducted a modest event in three states: Arizona, California, and Arizona. Leslie began this side project around three years ago, and he recognized promise in it. She wanted this event to be as well-known as the other big events in the business, so she set out to make it bigger and more national. About Wingman Business Development The mission of Wingman Business Development is to elevate, develop, and publicize other companies to new heights of success. The firm has the resources, know-how, and aptitude to forge relationships and develop clients' brands and businesses thanks to its extensive network cultivated during more than 20 years of working with both major and small businesses. Leslie followed the path she set for growth and rebranded the event, bringing on more vendors and attendees. In just a year, the event went from three locations to twelve locations across the US. She also made sure the event didn't close during the "Covid Pandemic shutdown" and increased the number of events it held that year. Additionally, Leslie made the event so well-known in the industry that other events and entities tried to purchase it, and others attempted to mimic or copy it, all without success. Leslie managed an aircraft brokerage and management firm in addition to overseeing the event. Leslie gathered a lengthy list of diverse businesses and individuals from her network. The group will do all within its power to help the client's business grow since they firmly feel that their success is their success. Leslie decided she wanted to help grow, project, and assist other businesses in becoming successful or increasing their brand awareness because she was able to assist so many others with their new start-up companies or well-established companies with ideas for growth based on her experience and other business contacts. Wingman Business Development was therefore launched. The Organisation Balanced Approach to Leadership The journey of Yashoda Super Speciality Hospitals began 33 years ago, following the unfortunate passing of Late Yashoda Ji, who was Upasana's mother-in-law and diagnosed with cancer. The family worked tirelessly to improve her health, but tragically, she passed away. During her illness, the family faced the challenge of having to travel to other cities like Mumbai for state- of-the-art treatment since there was no such healthcare center in Ghaziabad. Upasana believes that having a single leader with a well-defined philosophy that permeates throughout the organisation can create a unified and centralized approach to organizational management. This approach helps improve control and enhances the execution of work since there is clarity about the roles and responsibilities of different staff members, leading to smoother achievement of objectives. However, Upasana also values the importance of developing leaders within their respective domains to effectively manage and lead specific areas of the organization. This dual approach, combining centralized guidance and empowered domain leaders, contributes to a well- rounded and effective management structure. In response to this need, the family decided to establish a healthcare facility in Ghaziabad to ensure that people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, wouldn't have to travel far for advanced medical care. They started with a secondary care hospital with 100 beds in 1990 and later expanded to 300 beds in 2000. Subsequently, a tertiary care hospital was established in 2006, followed by the opening of a quaternary care hospital in 2017. This journey reflects their commitment to providing accessible and advanced healthcare to the community. Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital's future plans include establishing new centers, such as a 1200-bedded hospital, Yashoda Medicity, in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad; a 300-bedded Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital in Greater Noida, and Yashoda Medicentre in Meerut, UP and Karkardooma, East Delhi, India. Additionally, the hospital group aims to set up offices focused on medical tourism in Europe, the Middle East, and the USA to provide quality healthcare at international standards to populations in these regions. Wisdom for Emerging Leaders Upasana's advice for someone entering a leadership position for the first time centers on self-belief and leading by example. She emphasizes the importance of believing in oneself and working diligently to accomplish goals. In her view, actions are more impactful than words and are a reflection of one's personality and leadership qualities. Upasana advises new leaders to lead by example, meaning that they should be willing to do the tasks and exhibit the behaviors they expect from their team members. This approach can inspire trust and respect among the team and foster a positive work environment. Commitment to Accessible Healthcare and Social Responsibility Upasana's vision is to provide quality healthcare to those who are often left at the end of the line, as well as to work selflessly for the betterment of society. To achieve this vision, she has undertaken various initiatives and projects. She has played a crucial role in implementing the Ayushman Bharat program, India's largest social insurance initiative, aimed at providing accessible healthcare to all. Her hospital has been actively involved in this initiative. She is working on the ambitious goal of TB elimination in her district by adopting 5100 TB patients as part of the Prime Minister's initiative, "Nikshya Mein Potion ka Nishchay." This contributes to the National TB Elimination program's target of eliminating TB in India by 2025. Upasana serves as the Chairperson of the Special Olympics Delhi Chapter. Through this role, she promotes the well-being 46 | July 2024
of individuals with special needs, including the blind and mentally challenged, by providing them with free health check-ups and suitable office spaces to work in. She is involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including collaborating with Olympus to set up mobile vans equipped with endoscopic facilities in the remote and rural areas. These vans bring endoscopic services directly to people, making healthcare more accessible. She has adopted a girls' residential school and various NGOs working for the girl child. She provides free health check-ups to the students and supports their educational needs. Additionally, she has adopted the village of Masauta, in the periphery of Ghaziabad district, where she oversees healthcare requirements. Upasana contributes to healthcare in high-altitude areas of Uttarakhand by providing ambulances and medical equipment to the Swami Vivekanand Health Mission Society, ensuring that people in remote regions have access to medical services. Through her dedication and various initiatives, Upasana is actively working to make healthcare accessible and improve the well-being of marginalized communities in India. Ethical Patient-Centric Care Upasana's hospital provides a wide range of healthcare services covering various medical specialties and super specialties, along with comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative facilities, all available within a single healthcare facility. While their current focus in quaternary care involves kidney transplants, there are plans to expand and offer liver transplant facilities in the near future. Fortunestime.com | 47
