  1. Risk Management Plan: Fixing Legionellosis It was the year 1976, Legionellosis or Legionnaires' disease (LD) as it is popularly known had its first outbreak, and it was at American Legion, hence the reason for the name. It later went on to spread across to other places. Sydney would be among the recent ones. The impact of this having been realized, led to some serious actions taken not only by the government, but private organizations also took the lead. Among the ones that came forward would be FlowMatix. Being a renowned cooling tower specialist in Australia, they have a long way. They provide commercial as well as industrial sites. Moving on, some quick and essential facts about LD would include: ▪Spreads – by breathing in mist containing the bacteria or aspiration of contaminated water. ▪Risk factor – old age, chronic lung disease, poor immunity, history of smoking ▪Symptoms – fever, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, etc. ▪Treatment – use of antibiotics ▪Prevention – depends on good maintenance of water systems. No vaccines are available. The high number of cases prompted them to bring a Legionella taskforce into place. Their role stands for bringing a new set of regulations that focuses on the improved management of cooling towers and, thereby, the risk of the bacteria. This came to be known as what is called Cooling tower RMP (risk management plan). So how does this help besides curbing the disease? ▪Prevention of further outbreaks ▪It enhances the cooling performance and, thus, improves the output.

  2. ▪Reduction in energy consumption. It plays a major role in bringing down the cost. ▪It reduces capital expenses. Maintaining a cooling tower would increase its life and, thus, reduce unnecessary expenses. ▪It meets government regulations. As mentioned before, the government has been predominantly taking action to put this into control. The RMP is one step towards the same. As mentioned previously, some organizations provide services in the form of water management and help in controlling the outbreaks. FlowMatix is one among them, that provide services over and above what is mentioned above and that includes: -Cooling treatment: inspection, installation, and RMP -Repairs: All possible brands and model of a cooling tower in entire Australia -Installation of spare parts to get the machine running in no time -New cooling towers: they are proud owners of cooling towers themselves Thus, it is essential to take immediate action and that to from the right source.
