  1. PM Internship Yojana 2024: A Gateway to Skill Development and Employment ThePM Internship Yojana 2024 is a visionary initiative launched by the Government of India to empower youth through practical exposure and industry-oriented training. In line with the government’s broader objective of creating a skilled and employable workforce, this scheme aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional requirements by offering internship opportunities in various government departments, ministries, and associated sectors. Objectives of the Scheme The primary objectives of the PM Internship Yojana are: 1. Skill Enhancement: To provide practical experience and skill-building opportunities to students and recent graduates. 2. Employment Readiness: To make youth employment-ready by equipping them with hands-on knowledge of the working of government systems. 3. Public Sector Awareness: To expose interns to public service and administrative processes. 4. Bridging the Gap: To reduce the disconnect between theoretical education and practical job requirements. Who Can Apply? The scheme is open to: ● Undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in recognized institutions. ● Fresh graduates who have completed their degree within the last two years. ● Applicants from various streams including engineering, law, management, social sciences, commerce, and humanities. There may be minimum academic performance criteria (such as CGPA or percentage) for eligibility. Some positions may also require basic computer knowledge or communication skills.

  2. Duration and Structure ● Duration: The internship generally ranges from 2 months to 6 months, depending on the department and nature of work. ● Mode: It can be offline, online, or hybrid, depending on the department’s infrastructure and the applicant’s location. ● Certificate: On successful completion, interns are awarded a certificate from the concerned department, which adds great value to their resumes. Departments and Sectors Covered Interns may get the opportunity to work with ministries such as: ● Ministry of Education ● Ministry of Rural Development ● Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change ● NITI Aayog ● Department of Telecommunications ● State government offices and municipal corporations (in some cases) Application Process The application process typically includes the following steps: 1. Online Registration on the official government internship portal (like or respective departmental websites). 2. Filling the Application Form: Including details of academic qualifications, interests, and preferred departments. 3. Uploading Documents such as mark sheets, resume, ID proof, and recommendation letter (if required). 4. Shortlisting and Interview: Based on merit or telephonic/video interviews.

  3. Benefits for Students ● Real-World Experience: Exposure to government projects, schemes, and operations. ● Networking: Interaction with experienced officers and professionals. ● Skill Building: Development of communication, data analysis, report writing, research, and administrative skills. ● Career Boost: Government internship certificates enhance credibility and employability for future job prospects. ● Stipend: While not all internships are paid, many departments now offer a stipend ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 depending on the position. Challenges and Improvements While the scheme is promising, some challenges exist: ● Awareness: Many students are still unaware of such opportunities. ● Limited Seats: High demand but limited positions in popular departments. ● Unpaid Internships: Not all positions offer a stipend, which may discourage economically weaker students. To improve the scheme, the government is working on: ● Expanding the number of participating departments. ● Creating a centralized internship portal. ● Ensuring fair and transparent selection. ● Increasing stipends and improving mentorship. Conclusion The PM Internship Yojana 2024 is a commendable step towards building a skilled, capable, and confident youth population. By giving students and fresh graduates an insight into the functioning of the government and real-world administrative practices, this scheme helps in nurturing future leaders, civil servants, and professionals. With proper awareness and outreach,

  4. the scheme can significantly contribute to India’s mission of becoming a global talent powerhouse.
