If you are facing difficulty in choosing between active or passive harmonic filters, then worry not because itu2019s a common doubt, and everyone faces this problem. Please review above presentation for complete information.

Description Now that we have already confused by the acronym VFD, let us simplify everything about harmonic filters in this blog. Harmonic filters are used to eliminate harmonic distortion, which is a result of excessive current in and out of appliances. Harmonic filters can prevent large quantities of harmonics from causing extreme damage to the equipment. It reduces downtime of operation and keeps the operating cost under control. They are of two types, viz., Active and Passive.
Active v/s Passive Well, most of the things in the world are more attractive when they are in active form. For instance, I was asked to write this article in active form too. But that’s not the case with harmonic filters. It’s not a straightforward answer in this case. Active Harmonic Filters are used to eliminate or reduce harmonics experienced from power received from the national grid. The energy which is received in the form of electricity is not necessarily clean – the word clean is used in a different context than general- and needs to be regulated so that it does not cause any harm to installation.
Active v/s Passive Therefore, active harmonic filters are installed in the premises to reduce or minimize the harmonics, which indirectly leads to optimization of the power supply. Passive harmonic filters for vfd (variable frequency drive) work almost the same as active harmonic filters. But the significant difference is that it is used for small premises as compared to active harmonic filters. It filters the current wave through an input reactor, output reactor, shunt reactor, and capacitor.
Concluding Note: If you are facing difficulty in choosing between active or passive harmonic filters, then worry not because it’s a common doubt, and everyone faces this problem. You just need the right guidance to sail you through this ocean of doubts. Energy Control System might help you.
