  1. Appeal By The Ventriglias On Zambezi Portland Effectively Rejected By Supreme Court

  2. Supreme Court Zambia throws out appeal by Ventriglia family

  3. In this appeal, the Ventriglias challenged decision from Court of Appeal

  4. On 31st January 2019, Court of Appeal gave decision on Zambezi Portland Cement

  5. In this decision, Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Finsbury Investments was regarded as owner of Zambezi Portland

  6. Finsbury Investments owned 58 percent shares of Zambezi Portland Cement

  7. In their appeal, the Ventriglias claimed that the decision by Court of Appeal was incorrect

  8. Instead, they claimed that the decision from Lusaka High Court was correct

  9. Lusaka High Court dragged the case of Zambezi Portland for more than a decade

  10. Their final decision was given in the month of May, 2018

  11. According to this decision, the Ventriglias were announced as only shareholders of the Zambezi Portland Cement

  12. This decision was considered as misdirected and controversial

  13. After the claim by Ventriglias at the Supreme Court, a bench of three judges was established

  14. These judges evaluated the worthiness of the claim by the Ventriglias

  15. After evaluation, the claim was rejected by the Supreme Court

  16. It was found that law requires claims against court decision to be made within 14 days

  17. The Ventriglias failed to comply with this legal requirement

  18. The bench of SC judges also considered the circumstances surrounding the appeal to be vague

  19. As such, the appeal by the Ventriglias was effectively rejected.
