  1. Scoliosis: What You Need To Know? Introduction: The sideways curvature that you observe at the back in children is called Scoliosis. One can see this defect before the child attains the age of puberty. In general, we can say at the time of growth spurt. The reason or the cause of Scoliosis is not always known. However, two of the reasons can be muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy. When the cause is unknown, it is called idiopathic Scoliosis. It may be either because of genes or some other reason. Even the doctors fail to describe the cause of Scoliosis.  People have a myth that it develops in children due to carrying heavy bags or sleeping in the wrong way. Both cases are not real. Out of all the people who have Scoliosis, 3% are suffering from idiopathic Scoliosis.

  2. Get Acknowledged To Scoliosis In Brief Scoliosis does not show any of the signs and symptoms at the earlier stages. There is only a slight bulge of about 10 degrees in the spine. You cannot detect the spinal curvature with naked eyes but can observe it with the help of an X-Ray machine. Once the spinal curvature increases to about 20 degrees or more, one can observe the abnormalities. Causes: One can notice the differences based on the clothes you carry. It will either hang or tilt on one side. Typically, the kids may not get to know these changes initially, but it is visible to parents and teachers. The person who has idiopathic Scoliosis does not have to bear any pain. Scoliosis is painless, especially in the case of youngsters and teenagers. However, it is not valid for all.  If the curve increases more than 20 degrees, the person who has Scoliosis can face particular difficulties. It can be trunk imbalance, muscle spasms and few other issues that generate pain. The signs and symptoms of Scoliosis also depend on the types of Scoliosis. It is differentiated based on age at which Scoliosis initiated.

  3. Types Of Scoliosis: One can recognise Idiopathic Scoliosis by the age at which the child starts developing Scoliosis. There exist three major types of Scoliosis. They are: Infantile Idiopathic: The defect that develops in an infant up to an age of 3 years. Juvenile Idiopathic: If Scoliosis generates in a child between the age group of 4 to 9 years, then it falls under this category. Adolescent Idiopathic: When the person starts to develop the spinal curve in the age between 10 to 18 years, it is said to be adolescent Scoliosis. The growth and development of all the body parts of the human body occur at the age of adolescence. Most of the idiopathic Scoliosis occurs at this stage or say are visible. Once you observe the defect in your child at a young age, you must not be ignorant. It is essential to consult a healthcare professional, get the diagnosis done and start with the treatment. Ignorance may lead to increasing a lot of problems and pain in the child who can become chronic over time.

  4. When Is It Important To Take Up Treatment For Scoliosis? You may not receive the complete cure for this disease, but it is essential to take up with the treatment at specific stages. However, once you observe the curve, you must visit the doctor for consultation. The doctor carries forward with the treatment based on the following things. Observation: Once you approach the doctor for any treatment, he would recommend observing the condition of the patient first. When the spinal curve is less than 20 degrees, a regular x-ray of the patient is taken to check if there are any changes in the tilt. The records are matched regularly, to observe the changes over some time.

  5. Surgery: Bracing: If there is no stop to the growth in curve even after bracing, the only option left for the cure is surgery. One of the most preferred spinal correction surgery for Scoliosis is Posterior Spinal Fusion. This type of surgery results in better correction with minimum levels of fusion. Posterior spinal fusion is updated, and the latest technology used for scoliosis correction. Also, the results of this type of surgery are far better, giving options for better mobility. If the changes are regular, and the curve is expanding, the doctor suggests wearing a back brace. It is advised to provide support and relief in pain if any. This brace is to be worn up to an age of adolescence to reduce the chances of further growth. Continuously wearing the back brace may show the improvisation in the condition of patients and reduce the chances of surgery. There is no use of taking up with surgery before the age of adolescence. As a person may undergo significant changes before attaining the puberty.

  6. Symptoms Of Scoliosis: It does not show any symptoms at the initial stages. However, it becomes evident over time. Let us check. How? First thing first the fitting of the clothes is uneven. It is initially noticeable by the parents and other observers. Later the person suffering from it may feel himself. Someone who can look at your bare body or in a swimsuit or a condition of minimal clothing can observe the backward curve. If the curve increases the underlying or mild Scoliosis, which is valid only for 10% of the people, the curve is pronounced. This condition requires immediate consultation with a medical professional. Some of the other symptoms may be a sideways bend while walking, chronic pain, more rigidity in the body, reduced flexibility, the problem in breathing and more. If you observe any of the condition mentioned above, the patient must go for diagnosis. Symptoms of Scoliosis are more observable in moderate and advanced stages.

  7. Final Words: Not all the conditions call for surgery. If you visit the doctor during the early stages, the problem is curable with bracing. So, once you can observe the signs of Scoliosis, check with the specialist to get the right advice to progress further and get the possible cure. Thank you
